Jarod Bolek, Tom Kelly & Jake D. originally met during a project in Dunedin, called RipTide. Since then, they developed a working relationship that brought them some time in the studio as a musical unit for several years. Project Kelly was the name J and Tom used first while recording at Wayne Legg's personal studio. After a few sessions, the duo changed their name and went with the slightly more popular, Sofa King.
Sticking with what they knew, Tom & J recorded various metal sessions, easily compiling enough songs for a demo. Though, being the perfectionists they are, they withheld their music from the world. Both believed that the music they created was mearly for expressional, personal purposes.
Tommy still resides in Dunedin, where as Jay had moved into Pasco after a year at USF. Due to time schedules and distances involved, they stopped the creation process, but not the learning process.
Jay holds on to many recordings made throughout the years, and apparently has decided to share small tidbits from the bands' endeavors as well as his personal recordings. More recently, Jake has uncovered analog recordings from the very early years.
They have entered their own version of Garage Days Re-visited by rounding up many old "discarded" recordings and breathing new life into them. Some require a whole new approach due to the low quality of the recording. (remember those old school dictation recorders, may have been great 20 years ago) Others are joyous epiphanies of revelation that just come back naturally.
Jay is involved in at least 2 projects as of August '08. One project is focusing on the Industrial Metal genre, by using samples and sequencers, etc. While the other is more based upon the looser jam sessions with RipTide but with a much meaner tone, and often playing with a much lower tuning.
It's all about making an impression and maybe some money to help pay for strings. Though, he is still looking for that special group of people who can really enjoy the music and make a living devoting themselves to it.
