   About Jaryd Lane
‘Raw and Real’ These are some of the more popular terms that have been used over the past decade after hearing the hard rocking country and bluesy sounds of Jaryd Lane. When asked his take on it he replied, “Well I guess the rawness is just a south Louisiana thing man. I grew up in a place where aside from the popular country and rock sounds that were playing on the radio, you also were surrounded by the traditional sounds of Cajun and Zydeco music, which both have a real raw and authentic sound. They have definetly been a huge part of who I am now, musically. As for being real, that’s what sets country music apart from any other genre to me. It’s real situations about real everyday people; country music has always been a way of life to me. I believe Bocephus said it perfectly ‘You can’t fake it if you’re gonna make it, you gotta live it.’” A native of Louisiana this real deal country boy has lived his entire life rolling down back roads and all that farm life has to offer. Being from a small town, Jaryd has learned some of the advantages and disadvantages though. “Everybody knows everybody and all your business, but anytime you need a hand with something there’s always someone there as well.” He believes that family and friends come first and is true and faithful to the ones he loves. “It’s funny, being younger you tend to wanna run away from all that a small town has to offer, but as things get crazier in your life you tend to go back to that nice simple way of living.” While always keeping music at the forefront of his vision, Jaryd ventured into the world of scholars and earned his bachelors degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Entering into the study of Architecture, several years in he made a life changing decision staying in the arts but focusing in more on the musical spectrum and absorbed new influences. “I had been playing for years but never really new the technical part of music or why this is this and so on, so I enrolled in theory classes and it started to take on a whole new life for me.” From a young age Jaryd has always shown a strong interest in music. Growing up he recalls listening to artists like Hank Jr., Pearl Jam, Black Crowes and Bob Seger or as some would say everything from A-Z and sneaking into the back door of some of the local music venues just to even get a peak of the bands on stage. Although he has never claimed to be this or that musically or even try to put himself in a box, he has however always claimed to be one thing (just a country boy playing music). He began his love for it studying drums and dreamed of being the next John Bonham(Led Zepplin) or Neil Peart(Rush), but as fate would have it an accidental car crash in high school left him with a bummed leg for weeks and an old acoustic guitar that one of his music buddies (Shane Hebert) loaned him during this time and quickly he went from wanting to be the next Bonham to wanting to be the next Eddie Vedder or the next Bocephus. Armed with an acoustic and of pile of records Jaryd started studying all genres learning what made each artist so great. Aside from developing a thick skin, Jaryd recalls the best piece of advice he has ever gotten in his career and one that came early on was, “Discover the greats of all eras and genres, but develop your own sound and your own true voice from them.” So with that in mind Jaryd began reading, listening and practicing honing in on his craft. “ I definetly think being a drummer first has helped me musically. The songs I tend to write all seem to come from a melodic standpoint, it’s as if some of the tunes were written behind a kit. I read somewhere that John Lennon once told David Bowie: ‘Tell the truth, make it rhyme and put a backbeat to it.’ So there you go!” Whether solo acoustic or full band behind him, Jaryds raw and soulful voice has been winning audiences all over the Southwest and has helped him spread to other regions throughout the country. With a style that varies from Skynyrd grit to rocking acoustic country and blues, Jaryd taps into fun loving hard working people with songs about love, sin, God, hardship, misconnections and family. “It’s all about the songs for me, great feel good songs with killer stories.” With two independent albums under his belt, it’s obvious that Jaryd is no stranger to great storytelling. He touches on everything from the finer things in life to high lonesome stories of cowboys risking it all with songs big enough for radio and real enough for rodeo. His first release, Country Boy Sessions, featured a collection of 11 acoustic tracks and has landed him spots as the top selling local artist in Barnes N’ Noble stores throughout Louisiana with sales gaining national attention from the bookseller. Aside from retail accomplishments Jaryd has also landed several songs on some of Louisiana’s biggest watt radio stations. In 2006 he has had the honor of being the 1 most requested artist in all of Acadiana and has been featured as the 8 most requested in the top 100 songs of 2006 with a song on that very same album titled ‘Country Boy Blues’ penned by Lane. His second endeavor titled ‘Riding For The Brand’ has also had some of the same accomplishments and has helped him in earning a legion of fans. It has landed him a spot on one of the most popular NPR shows across the country called (The Prairie Home Companion) featuring Garrison Keillor which took place in St. Paul, MN at the historic Fitzgerald Theater in front of thousands and was broadcast in several countries reaching millions. So with the branching off into other territories Jaryd shows proof that it’s gotta start somewhere and that the grassroots way of attack is and can still be effective. “I think some of my greatest accomplishments will always be things I did independently. It’s so hard to get stuff on the radio now a days without being signed and to have such great response over the years has been pretty cool. It has helped me as an artist in that, I find myself being more patient now and not jumping into things just to be heard. Having tasted it a bit early on has not made me so overzealous I guess, but I must say it will be great to have national attention as well.” Having had the opportunity to open for other national acts such as David Allan Coe, Ronnie Milsap, Tracy Lawrence, Chris Cagle, John Conlee, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Mark Chesnutt, Edwin McCain just to name a few has helped this southerner turn more than a few heads and is sure to keep ‘em turning. Now with the opportunity to reach a new level of fans, Jaryd is ready to shake things up in the music world and this true (Rock N’ Roll Cowboy) is ready to hit the edgy side of country music fans and bear his soul with a renegade type spirit. plain layout powered by HOTFreeLayouts.com / MyHotComments
