BIOGRAPHY:
I honed my craft over many years, listening to my favorite artists' albums and studying their songs, their production and their singing. I took piano and voice lessons growing up, and started playing my songs in high school and college and at different coffeehouses, which is weird seeing as I don't really drink coffee. :) (Okay, okay, once in a great while...) A performing highlight for me was when I was invited to perform at the famed Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center in New York City. I've gone on to release my first CD "Between Head and Heart." Less than a year after it was released, I opened for the rock band Pure Prairie League ("Amie") at the 15,000-seat Artpark Amphitheater in the HSBC-sponsored "Concerts at the Gorge" Series. I've even had the opportunity to sing for superstar producer David Foster, who's produced some of my favorite aritsts like Celine Dion, Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston. (David has written some of the biggest hits of the last two decades including Chicago's "Hard To Say I'm Sorry," Peter Cetera's "Glory Of Love" and Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing." He produced "Because You Loved Me" for Celine Dion and "I Will Always Love You" and "Run To You" off "The Bodyguard" soundrack.) After I played him my song "Lying Under the Moon," he compared my writing to his. It was an amazing moment! A lot of my songs are being played on internet radio stations, and have become some of the top user-rated. That's pretty cool! (Okay, I have to admit it felt more than good when "Please Don't Say You Love Me" tied with a George Michael song for the top-rated song of the week!)
I like to describe "Between Head and Heart" as a finely-crafted, intimate collection of original songs that range from piano ballads to funkier rock- and Latin-inspired tracks. I try to write songs of sincerity and simplicity that are melody-driven and have lyrics that are universal but not clichéd.
I've been described as a cross between Elton John and Josh Groban, and I think my songwriting mirrors that of today's hitmakers like James Blunt and Five For Fighting. I strive for honesty in my vocal performances, keeping them free of overwrought histrionics.
I feel like music is a common denominator. We're all living life, and go through a lot of the same things. I like it when people hear my songs and find that the words I write are things they feel, but maybe haven't been able to articulate.
Whether you need an extra shove to get over a relationship (Track 1 "It's Called Movin' On") or simply need a moment to remember (Track 10 "A Welcome in Your Smile"), you find it on "Between Head and Heart".
When someone tells me that a song of mine moved them because they've felt those same sentiments in their own life, it really makes me feel great. That I can connect with people on that level and give them encouragement in a challenging time in their lives is, honestly, something I'm very thankful for.
I hope you'll check out my CD. Maybe you'll see bits of yourself in things I've gone through. I hope you do. "Between Head and Heart" is available online at www.cdbaby.com/cd/jasonbravo and www.amazon.com, and in the Buffalo area at Borders Books and Music, and at Barnes and Noble.
