Recording at the SPEAKER PALACE is a unique and idiosyncratic experience.
Producer Jason and engineer Hugo took their time with the initial set-up, ensuring the warmest of tones from the amps and the crispest of hits from the drums, then proceeded to mic up everything in sight. The recording itself went smoothly as a result - it's easy to play well when you're confident the men behind the machines know what they're doing.
The machines themselves were something else: musical apparatus apart - you can use whatever you find lying around to enhance your sound, from valve amps and tom-toms to shopping trolleys and a harp made out of a VW Beetle - there is classic and cutting-edge technology slotted into every available corner of this amazing space. A ceiling studded with speakers of all shapes and sizes (APPROX 60-70) guarantees your recording can be quality controlled across the board, so you can check what you sound like on everything from a car stereo to a rock stadium speaker.
Jason's experience and professionalism shone through. He'd done his homework on our back catalogue, knew what we sounded like and knew what he thought we should sound like. We agreed - it was a real musical mind-meld. He helped guide us through the recording process, suggested improvements but never forced them on us, did a lot of the preliminary mixing stuff beforehand, freeing us up to focus on the final mix, and advised on the finer points of playing the glockenspiel. At every stage he checked we were happy, offered his opinion and respected ours, and at the end of three days' reasonably priced studio time we came away with a shit-hot recording, a clearer idea of our sound and potential and a sense of fulfilment and pride that could only be bettered by news we'd just won the Nobel Prize for Rock. We'll most certainly be back.

Our Speaker Palace Studio experience was brilliant! Jason is great to work with, a very competent and creative producer/ engineer and having Hugo on hand to help really made us get the best use of our time. The Space it's self is fantastic, very cool and perfect for recording in. The musical equipment on hand for you to use is brilliant, with crazy instruments to play plus great sounding amps etc. We highly recommend the studios to any live band wanting a real live recording experience with top quality production and reasonable rates. We're defo heading back in the future...Thanks guys.

The recording process was very relaxed and friendly but also extremely professional, the studio is like no other! - No big white padded cells without any flare or imagination but instead an art studio brimming over with inspiration. We had a fantastic experience recording at Phosferris with Jason. Everything was set up and we were left to play in his cool studio. There was no clock watching and we got all our songs and vocals down in 2 days. We were chuffed with the sound (and sofa's and kitchen) and are going to hook up with Jason for our next recording in a few months time.
