Influences
Music, Drumming, Singing...rock and roll, funk, folk, punk, urban or world, ancient or new ...Zepelin, the Police, Donny Hathoway, Pink Floyd, Ben Harper, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Beck, Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, all the greats...Zakir Hussein, Mozart...the wind, the water, the mountains and the trees...My Daughter!...Voices over countless ages...the list goes on...
Many roads and many stories...finally a Jason Kechely solo record after years of bands, projects, and collectives. Jason is set to release his solo debut on September 25th, 2007. The self titled record will be released on Jason's own label, Popular Resistance Records.
Produced by Kevin Kane (Grapes of Wrath) with Jason, the collaboration on the record finds the songs reaching emotional heights and sonic depths that hint at the large ensemble work that is to come. Joined by an all-star cast of players that include Darren Paris, Jesse Zubot, Coco Love Alcorn, Dave Webb, Kent Wallace, and Bill Runge, the album was recorded and mixed at Profile Sound Studios in Vancouver where Jason is a partner. Engineered by Chon, and mixed by Steven Drake, the record has an old school "start-to-finish" quality lacking in so many of todays corporate releases.
"I wanted my first record to be 'big' without being over-produced or pretentious..." says Kechely. "It really just comes down to how you want to hear the song. The song seems like the most important part, that, and the initial energy or spirit from the performers. I actually hear the horns, or the Hammond...the strings, but what was really a blessing was Kevins guitar work. I couldn't have come up with most of his parts on my own...Kevin has a truly unique vision when it comes to guitar-I feel blessed to have it holding up these songs."
Jason is currently engaged in production with Pauline Lamb as they record her first full scale record. Jason's producer duties threaten to overwhelm his musician/singer-songwriter responsibilities this summer, but rest assured "...I have an awesome band coming together right now, and hopefully another collective around the corner...I can't wait for the new tours, playing shows, getting this music out there...and a new record right on the heels of this one."
"My own experience has taught me this: if you wait for the perfect
moment when all is safe and assured it may never arrive. Mountains will
not be climbed, races won or lasting happiness achieved."-Maurice
Chevalier.
Have a wonderful day, Jason!
