I thought I may as well bypass all the industry talk and introduce myself properly, no spruiking about awards that I've won, No new upcomming Australias hardest working and best indie banter.
Just me, my story and my music..............................Welcome :)
I had a natural affinity to music from an early age. My family has always been involved in some way or another for over three hundred years - my great, great, great grand father played and maintained the pipe organ in the Sistene Chappel in England, My Grandfather was the leading violinist for the polish national orchestra at the age of 11 years and then went on to be the leading spanish guitarist of europe when he was 15 years old, sadly after WWII he never played again until he asked to tune my guitar when I was about 13, making me the only one in the family who ever heard him play.
My Grandmother (Ethel Mcewan) and her family toured Australia all through her child hood in their own country show, loading up bullock trains with instrument and playing in early settlements through the 1920's and 30's.
So i was bought up in a household of music, and being so remote, we only had the National television and radio stations available for entertainment, and I found that incredibly boring, so it's not so surprising that I have ended up doing what I do. .
At the age of five my parents put me into proffesional tuition, by the age of eleven I had exceeded my teacher and sat at a grade eight with honours on the classical piano.....an offer at the conservatoriam of music was offered (my great uncle was the curator at the time) but unfortunately being from such a poor background (we were living in a trailer at the back of my grandmothers) they had to turn it down. .
I taught myself guitar and by the age of thirteen had started writing rockabilly styled tracks(in fact i still have the first song i wrote somewhere ).
The rest is history really, joined and left bands, won some awards and in my twenties decided to start pushing for a songwriting career, by 29 no-one was showing any interest in recording my material so I decided I had best do it myself - I remember that I had 156 songs by the time I was 30! .
These days it's full steam ahead, the debut album "This Dance" delivered some unexpected results with "Through The Eyes Of A Child" sitting at number one across fourteen countries for six weeks and delivered top five nominations in the MusicOz and TIARAS competitions , quickly followed by "No-one loves this truck like me" and "A Cowboys Hat", Three other top fives included " Conformity" "A Cowboys Pride" and "Ballad of Adrian Peddemore" but the most surprising was a song called "Roadtrip" that never entered any charts but has had the longest life, always being requested at shows and on television. The other Song which never charted (and amazingly was banned from some radio stations) was a song called "Conformity" which never enjoyed much airplay but was the most requested song whilst on our promotional tour for "This Dance
We released four filmclips to television off this album , there are another two that are still to be released as well
Alongside the success off this album came approaches by other artists to write and record my material, the first being a co-write between myself, Gemma Doyle and Michael Flanders called "It's all I've ever Known", quickly followed by Alan Cooper picking up "Sea Side City Cowboy" , Robert Kieth"Little Piece of Me" , Davide Buzzi (Switzerland) "Caruso's Bar" , Nellie Donovan - " Cruisin' ", "Steal My Heart Away " and a co-write with Chaise "Smooth", Erin Drew (Minnesotta) "Sing" and "Tonight" and Kylie Hogan is currently looking at three tracks for her second album.
I am currently reviewing material for the next album, which is pretty difficult as I have a clear direction for where the next album should go but I find myself with such an abundance of songs from my own personal library (over 500 tracks
I am also excited over the prospect of becoming Pacific International Music PTY LTD's new lead writer which will see my material demo'd to a lot of the leading American Artists and prospects of taking my styles to Nashville every twelve months, where I am hoping to be able to write with Jeffery Steele and Gary Baker, I absolutely love the way these guys write and they have been incredibly inspirational in my own writings.
I will always love my fans, I will always enjoy their company and have a beer with you all..........The term "fan" has always been a little disturbing to me as with personal experiance, most fans end up becomming friends ! And I have made so many friends over the years doing what I do best, and that is playing live on stage to people that love what I do, I have an incredible life and have gotten to play all over Australia, meeting and talking to thousands upon thousands of people from all different walks of life........One closely held belief that I hold highest of all is that everybody has a story but not everybody listens, I do my best to become involved in some way in everyones life that I meet. I love having a beer whether on the stage or in the crowd and enjoy nearly all types of music and believe every style has it's place.
I am the type of person that truley believes there is good in everybody, I hate crime, capitalists, liars and anyone that generally tries to take advantage of anybody else , especially the underprivelidged. I believe in the working man and stand up against opression, I hate the blatant misleading and continuous spruiking of governments, but believe in the common good, one thing I am dead against is greed. I just think that common sense and human decency isn't as prominent as it was. Stand strong, stand tall, be proud, as the duke said "talk slow, talk low or dont talk at all" . I have stood up for mates that are to afraid to question their seniors.
Most of all my life whether on stage or off is about having fun, I live my life to the max and care very deeply about people that I encounter (i am a cancer after all), most people say that I'm to soft and it's true , I do let people use me (to an extent) , i am gifted with forsight and hold great visions of the future with genuine Ideas to help bring our music back to the people that I write about
I work very closely with the Silverstring Outlaws, I produce filmclips (Kerry Kennedy,Alan Cooper, Gemma Doyle and myself) , I do graphic art and website editting, sound recording and engineering, I can fix a motor and a dvd player, I can paint, sow and knit, I read anything and I have an incredible hunger for information and learning, but most of all I love all types of comedy and humour. Dont be dissillusioned, what you see is what you get, I dont think I could offer any more than that
Well thats me (in a nutshell as Austin Powers once said).......I hope you enjoy the page, the music and clips, drop by my friends pages and check out their music, stay safe, stay strong and most of all"Cowboy Up! " Cheers, Jason Kemp
Favourite TV Shows : Family Guy, American Dad, Spongebob, South Park, Futurama and The Simpson, I just crack up at the humour in the shows !
