"A true talent." --Editorial Staff, Asheville Bands myspace
"Martin places his music somewhere between pop and jam, but on first listen it sounds like a singer-songwriter rocking a synthesizer rather than an acoustic guitar." --Steve Shanafelt, Mountain Xpress Arts & Entertainment Editor
"Martin writes original music for the guitar and synthesizer in a combination that creates energetic, erratic pop tech-rock tracks." --Amy Jones, Asheville Citizen-Times Take 5 feature article
"I found [Jason Ross Martin's] music to be very original and refreshingly guile-less." --Mountain Xpress Listening Party reviewer
Thanks for checking out my page everyone. At this point in my life I am compelled to try my best to fill the Earth with beautiful things--for I know that my time here is fleeting and that God has blessed me with many visions. I am in love with life--most especially when I am chasing my Muse deep into my own secret idea of what I would be doing if I really am who I think I might be...
I play guitar, keyboards, mandolin, and banjo (however poorly! But I suspect I will emerge on that instrument as an old Greybeard, especially given my shaky knees...) I am also a poet, and a painter. Thus, my art seems to be a union of these three fine arts.... the sound, the words, and the images are equally vital to me.

is the home of my solo recordings collection from this point onward. This way, as I seek to get more people turned onto my voice as a musician and poet, you can spread this link to others you know who might enjoy my work.
This move of mine was prompted by a myspace bulletin posted by a friend of mine and fellow musician that really bothered me. He was trying to explain his decision not to post full-length tracks online because he was a "professional musician" and he was attempting to provide the livelihood for himself and his family through his art. And it struck me as perverse almost, the implications of that wording.
As if, even though I am single and have no children, if I want to provide my own livelihood as a "professional musician" then it isn't okay for me to post my songs online for people to enjoy. My thought is that if my art truly is transcendent and universal in some way, then I have nothing to lose by giving away all of it I want to at any point.
I have faith that I am going to find my way as an artist in this world, and that giving you all, anyone who cares, just as much love as I can through these songs I have absolutely nothing to lose.
If in the end, I fail to progress to the point where I make a lot of money from my art, enough to quit my day job and then truly be a "professional", then what have I lost? But if I succeed like I know I can, like I am convicted it is my destiny to do, then you can look back at this moment as an example of faith and not vanity.
