Jason Steel is a unique guitarist and singer haling from South Yorkshire. When he isn't dazzling audiences with his fretboard dexterity as part of The Owl Service, he's writing and recording beautiful rag-time influenced vignettes for acoustic guitar, banjo and ukulele. Fusing the influence of players such as Elizabeth Cotten, Bert Jansch and Mississippi John Hurt with the hushed intimacy of Jackson C. Frank, the result is compelling, intricate and affecting music. Jason's debut release (the strictly limited Eternal Embers EP) has sold out; A four song lathe cut is imminent, with a full album to follow later in the year. Jason also writes, records and plays with the wonderful Nancy Wallace.

Would most certainly like to, but we're not sure how we'd get anyone to show up...! I keep having horrible flashbacks to when I used to be in a band myself...
Are you playing the next Witches Hat? I was there for The Owl Service one, which was lovely.

A bit of advance notice - MondayMonday proudly presents Rún and Steven Finn and more at The Wilmington Arms, Clerkenwell on Monday 7th December
Rún collect and arrange old folk songs written in the ancient language of Erin. So far, thanks to Nora from Donegal, they have a nice wee collection of well-known ditties and are now adding to their repertoire with some unusual old forgotten songs from the province of Ulster. Rún are five fantastic lassies who perform four-part vocal arrangements of old Gaelic songs like ’An Cailín Rua’ (the red-haired girl), ’Casadh an tSúgain’ (twisting the hayrope) and ’Bo Na Leath Adhairce’ (the one-horned cow). Rún is the Gaelic word for ’secret, wish or love’ (cf. rune). See http://www.myspace.com/runceol ..
Steven Finn’s ears were filled with the music of Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Johnny Cash and old time country music. Aged 15 he began teaching himself the guitar, learning songs like Leadbelly’s ‘Bourgeois Blues’ and Charlie Daniels’ ‘The devil went down to Georgia’. On hearing Bob Dylan songs Finn started to write his own words and in doing so found a lifelong passion for Jazz and Folk Blues, a getaway car he could drive. See http://www.myspace.com/stevenfinn for more details

TWILIGHT FOLK CLUB PRESENTS… CIRCULUS plus SYD ARTHUR LIVE AT ORANGE STREET MUSIC CLUB CANTERBURY
ORANGE STREET MUSIC CLUB (01227) 760801
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 26TH 8.00PM TICKETS £9/£8 IN ADVANCE CIRCULUS
‘British band Circulus have almost single handedly reinvented English Psychedelic Folk Rock for the 21st Century…..their sound is totally unique coming across like a mixture of medieval English Folk, Fairport Convention and Ozric Tentacles! ‘This band just leave you wanting more, playing a wonderful mix of psychedelicised folk whilst hankering to a more pastoral time, but always feel uncomfortably bang up to date. The songs are a fantastic mix of heady summer jigs & ballads, sung with a crystal clear Englishness that can make you come over all unnecessary. This is prog/folk spot on in every way, and probably the only band around who use a Crumhorn, Cittern & Rausch pfiffer????......the audience is sent home happy. Seeking medieval inspiration is not in itself new – Gryphon and Amazing Blondel spring to mind – but Circulus marry this with vintage 70’s space-rock a la Hawkwind/Gong’. Power to the Pixies! SYD ARTHUR Syd Arthur are an exciting new band from the South East of the country, at the forefront of the young musical explorers whose unique sound has been making waves far beyond their native Canterbury. Their highly ec
Ha ha. Excellent. Don't worry... been there, done that. I once made four t-shirts for Snow Patrol back in 2003 with cartoon drawings of each of them on them that someone else had done. I can't even blame 'youth' - I was 36! I think they forgave me or felt sorry for me, I ended up running their official forum. Strange how these things turn out. Fergus trod on me at a gig in London as I cowered on the floor in a dark corner, and I've ended up running his myspace for the band. I continue to embarrass myself regularly. It doesn't seem to do me much harm.
"Absolutely wonderful. I cannot recommend highly enough catching them live if you get the chance." - Folk and Roots Online The Kittiwakes are Kate Denny on vocals and violin, Chris Harrison on accordion and Jill Cumberbatch on violin, mandolin, and guitar. Their debut album ‘Lofoten Calling’ is being released by Midwich Records, and is original music based around the people, landscape, folklore and history of the Lofoten Islands, - an area above the Arctic Circle in Norway. The music is song based, and influenced by traditional British Isles and Norwegian folk music. The band have supported established artists such as Faustus, Kathryn Williams and Tim Van Eyken and are fast developing a following in their own right.

You were wonder-full. Lovely meeting some of your childhood friends, and I very much appreciate the proverbial kick on the necessities of recording. Thank you and well done on a lovely evening and set!
