Jasper Erkens is a 16 year-old singer-songwriter from Kaggevinne, Belgium.
He’s unstoppable: a guitar for his 11th birthday, writing his own songs at 12, first concert at 13, first ex-girlfriend at 14, silver medal and audience prize in HUMO Rock Rally 2008 at 15, a debut album ánd a n°1 hit at the age op 16! Jasper Erkens writes and performs, with his finger-pick style, songs that sound much more adult than one might expect knowing his age. Not surprising, since the young man spoons up helpings of Damien Rice, Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, and even throws in a little of the young Bowie for dessert.
He has played opening sets for national and international stars like Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Colbie Caillat, Scott Matthew, Spinvis and jams with Chris Thompson and Elliott Murphy.
At the age of 16, he had already performed in hallowed halls like the Ancienne Belgique, Nijdrop, De Handelsbeurs, Petrol, Het Depot, Velinx, Lotto Arena and Sportpaleis.
In November 2008, he was the supporting act for Marike Jager in The Netherlands, where he played in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Maastricht, Delft and Eindhoven. He also performed in "de wereld draait door" and on "3FM".
Moreover, his cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” has effortlessly won everyone over, and not least the people at the radio station Studio Brussels who included it in their must-have double CD “Rendez Vous”. The succes of Crazy was immediatly followed by 'Waiting Like A Dog' which had even more succes and became a n°1 hit in 'De Afrekening' and 'MNM 50'.
In March this year his debut album 'The Brighter Story' was released. The curly-haired kid from Kaggevinne, worked together with producer Fritz Sundermann (Sioen, Laïs, Elisa Waut, Junior Jazz,...) and entered immediately the top 5 album charts in Belgium.
In July Jasper will play at the World's Best Rock Festival WERCHTER ! He will be the youngest artist ever to play at this festival.
His next aim; "convince the world" !
Veel succes & plezier this summer, je bent geweldig bezig.
