??The words above are proof that Jasper James is not your ordinary talent. Singer songwriter, producer, entertainer, revolutionary Jasper has devoted an entire adult life to studying music, metaphysical science and standing for the rights of those in the GLBTQ community. Holding firm to the notion that true transformation of the world around you begins with ones own existence, refusing binary gender definitions is just one of the many political statements Jasper uses to combat the current insurgence of puritanical mindset occurring throughout our culture today. Simply put, Jasper simply is Jasper.
Born in Las Vegas, Nevada Jasper’s father a personal security guard for classic American entertainers like Tom Jones, Paul Anka, and Sammy Davis Jr. (Sammy was one of the first people to hold baby Jasper,) introduced Jasper to an extraordinary way of life at a very early age. Her mother, a minister did not readily allow secular music into their home. Gospel and Classical were however acceptable and young Jasper channeled passion and wonderment for forbidden sounds into accepted ones performing in cathedrals singing opera with different choirs. Jasper says, I had the opportunity to move forward singing opera, but declined because it wasn't me. Due to a religious upbringing, it wasn’t until much later that Jasper became aware that Chris Jasper of Isley Brother fame was indeed a cousin.
??In August of 2005 Jasper tagged along with a friend, Gameboy Musician, Mark DeNardo to lay down some tracks at a studio. The producer, Brian Bender, played Jasper a rough cut of an original, and the space lounge funk resonated. Asking for an opportunity to add a vocal to the instrumental. Twenty minutes later the impulsive first take of main and background vocals complete. The eerily soulful vocal treatment you hear on the master is just as it was when it rolled over Jaspers tongue that very day in the studio. This event changed the course of Jasper’s solo career.
Within 2 months, Jasper debuted at the prestigious CMJ Festival fronting a 10piece ensemble.
A month later the band was asked to be a key fixture at a monthly residency at SNITCH NYC with Jasper holding suit with the outfit for a year.
At present, Jasper is working on a solo project support of the single “This House” which makes it’s debut on the soundtrack for John Cameron Mitchell’s new controversial film “Shortbus,” (www.shortbusthemovie.com) November 7th by TEAMLOVE Records (www.team-love.com) with international release slated for December, distributed by V2 Records.
