  • Bio

Jaune Toujours is an explosive mix of rock, chanson, ska, gypsy, latin, balkan and brassband. The band has an excellent international live reputation. Jaune Toujours play with their guts and aim at the audiences feet. Intelligent and poetic lyrics ooze a sincere social commitment. Jaune Toujours sound is so natural that its deceptive and at first might give the casual listener the impression of simplicity, when its really their musicianship and the particular philosophical angle from which they approach cross cultural composing, that makes their music sound as if its been around forever. Respect for content rather than form, for collaboration, rather than preservation and for long term development, has enabled them to create a musical universe that is rich, diverse, honest, modern and unique. Their lyrics in French and occasionally in Dutch, Romanès, Italian and Spanish -are sophisticated and poetic, yet bold and strong in communicating the state of the world. Jaune Toujours strive to speak for those who, too often, are not heard. Piet Maris founded Jaune Toujours and named the band after an accute attack of hepatites. He introduced influences from his favourite bands Les Négresses Vertes and Mano Negra into a punk-rock formation à la Ramones and The Clash. His guitar took a long time returning from the repair shop, so he picked up his accordion for the next few gigs, not realising that he had just taken the first step toward developping a unique new style for the band.
  • Members

Piet Maris (lead vocal and accordion), Theophane Raballand (drums), Mathieu Verkaeren (upright bass), Mattias Laga (reeds), and Bart Maris (trumpet), and/or Yves Fernandez (trumpet), and/or Dirk Timmermans (trumpet), and/or Sam Versweyveld (trumpet)
  • Influences

Early influences were: Les Négresses Vertes, Mano Negra, The Ramones, The Clash and traditional eastern european gypsy music. The band has the energy of Rock music, the unexpected twist of Jazz music, the breakbeats of Urban music, the warmth of Folk and World music, lyrics in Chanson style and the charm of a Street Band. Nowadays the band happily integrates elements of whatever kind of music they happen to come into contact with. From african brass band to latin rhythms, anything is acceptable, as long as it grooves....
