The now 19-year-old guitarist Javier Conde (born Caceres, 1988) has been known for several years as the 'Wunderkind' of the flamenco guitar. Trained by his father, José Antonio Conde, and grandmaster Andrés Batista, he has been performing on stage since the age of eight. In 2003, he recorded his first solo CD - 'Homenaje a Los Grandes de le Guitarra'. The CD led to invitations to the biggest guitar festivals in Europe, for both the flamenco and the classical guitar. Serious recognition in flamenco circles came after winning the fiercely contested 'Bordón Minero' first prize at the festival of La Unión in 2004. This prize has never before been won by such a young guitarist. In addition to his phenomenal technique, it is above all the phrasing that distinguishes his guitar playing.
Now at age 19, Javier Conde is playing at the same level that Paco de Lucia (regarded as the best in the world) played at the same age. His recent live concert album was nominated for Best Flamenco Album by the Academia de Musica in Madrid, and he is invited to play at the famous Seville Biennale this year. Discover him for yourself on his Canadian debut tour with his extraordinary ensemble of guitarists, singer and dancer.
