“Robert Owings’ new book, Call of the Forbidden Way, engagingly portrays the challenges faced by ordinary people caught in the grip of cosmic forces originating in a shamanic universe just beyond the limits of 'ordinary' reality. Owings' characters are believable, and his treatment of the ways in which shamanic dimensions can collide with everyday life kept me turning the pages from start to finish.”
— Dennis McKenna, Ph.D., ethnopharmacologist and co-author with Terence McKenna of The Invisible Landscape.
"I just received your book and I love it. I'm only 6 chapters into it and am so excited to read about a world that I've devoted my life to learning and practicing handled with such authenticity and openness. Very powerful. You have an amazing grasp of the subtle and not-so-subtle dynamics in traditional shamanism. I would love my clients to read it.”

Some people reach out to the mystical.
And sometimes it’s the mystical that reaches out and pulls people in.
“A wonderful thriller from the world of shamanism and sacred plants.” -Luis Eduardo Luna Ph.D Author of Vegetalismo
BOOK SYNOPSIS
Carson Reynolds heads off on another routine documentary shoot. Or so he thinks. He has no clue that it will lead him down the ancient medicine road—a mystical path illuminated by sacred consciousness-altering substances
Almost beyond his choice, Carson is pulled into experiences and studies that bend his mind and stretch his beliefs past the breaking point. Reality takes on a whole new meaning as he becomes embroiled in a series of encounters with dark “Visitors” intent upon subjugating the human race with Mayan prophecy-like purpose. Near accidents in the real world that threaten Carson’s life become all too common.
Starting with an old Native American shaman named Wounded Paw, Carson learns he must reclaim hidden spiritual abilities. Then he is sent to Rhiannon, an exotic modern priestess who follows a number of Eastern traditions that parallel or intersect the Native American way. In one of his sessions with Rhiannon, Carson meets a wrathful Tibetan deity who might be an ally…or who might just as easily destroy his soul.
Can Carson gain enough skill to save himself and join the ranks of global medicine workers in their efforts to shield humanity from suffering and annihilation.

Thank you for your Friendship, it means a lot to me. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Every human being is a unique combination of body, mind and spirit. This union is represented by the triple fleur-de-lis which stands for the present human experience. Our journey progresses in repetitive cycles of birth to death and then to afterlife. This oneness of mankind is further emphasized by an indivisible triune of subjectivity, diversity, and connectivity. Subjectivity is the tendency to see all things in the light of one’s own thoughts and feelings. Without it, the state of expertise could not be reached. Diversity insures that man’s full scope of creative abilities are utilized. Connectivity binds subjectivity and diversity together. Without it achievement and growth would be limited.
