Jaya made a cracking start to 2010 off the back of a national tour with N-Dubz, Tinie Tempah, Mz Bratt and Esmee Denters, supporting Peter Andre on tour, a show stopping performance at the Asian Music Awards and her debut single DJ Do It Again released in March…… but then she disappeared! Although still seen attending the odd celebrity red carpet events and her memorable performances on the BBC Introducing stages at festivals this summer, for the main part Jaya was pretty quiet. Now she is back with new music, and a more focused approach to her sound. “2010 was a learning experience for me, we released a record and me and my management team felt like we wanted to spend time behind the scenes getting the sound and the direction of the project right before releasing the next single, plus we were having creative differences with the label which took a long time to resolve, but now I’m back and I’m happier with everything creatively.” DJ Do It Again was a profile building record for Jaya and it did what it set out to do. Peaking at number 2 on the MTV Dance charts and number 3 on the first ever BBC Asian Music Charts. Outta Control, which is set for a Valentines Day release is the first single to bring her back into public consciousnesses. It is a bass heavy slice of urban pop, which chronicles Jaya falling for a guy in a way that leaves her feeling completely out of control of her emotions and doing things that are out of character. The song was co-written by Jaya with UK producer Anthony Marshall who currently resides in the US and is known for successfully working with artists such as Craig David, Steven Marley, K-Ci & Jo Jo, Britney Spears and JLS to name a few. Outta Control also features Jojo Simmons, the son of Hip Hop royalty Rev Run (Run DMC) nephew of Def Jam co-founder and Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons and star of MTV reality television series Runs House. Of his decision to collaborate with Jaya as his introduction to the European market; Jojo who raps under the moniker “Young Simmons” said “I was looking for the right sound to launch in Europe and when I heard the track I thought her sound was incredible! When I heard the vocals and the way the track bumped, I just had to jump on it and then when I saw how she looked it was a wrap. I had to get on this record! Plus the record shows my diversity.” Outta Control is released digitally on February 14th.
