JAYA - SAPETAR
Jaya started playing the guitar at the age of eight. The gifted talent and appreciation of what he can do on the guitar kept his interest alive and he decided to play guitar for the rest of his life. It’s his passion and he truly believes that he has chosen the right path to go on with his life career.
He can play any genre of music from rock, blues to Malaysian traditional or ethnic tunes; which are difficult to be applied onto a guitar.
He also sessions for some of Malaysian local recording artistes but works full-time at CK Music, a music store in Kuala Lumpur. The opportunity to be exposed to world class instruments like Korg, Line 6, Vox and Zoom had been influential for him in producing the best music and sound when he is writing or composing songs.
AMIL - DRUMS
Amil is a self-taught drummer with a great feel, groove and constant energy. He recorded his first album with a band called “Chosen”, a progressive heavy metal band which album was fortunate enough to be distributed in Europe.
However, after teaming up in Polar Attraction, he felt that he is very much ‘at home’ with the music concept and is sure that he’ll be around for good!
Although so, he continues with other concept of drum-playing and had ventured into regular gigs with different bands as well, in order to gain more experience with various styles of playing.
MOZAD - BASS
Mozad initially started off as a drummer, but switched to bass along the way, and there was no turning back from then on!
Born in New York, but he travels frequently between there and Kuala Lumpur which is his home-base. He also records in the USA for some American artistes; he does similar sessions for some here in Kuala Lumpur as well.
Professionally, Mozad is a photographer and a sound engineer. He also runs his own studio in doing video productions for corporate clienteles.
Polar Attraction is a 3-piece instrumental band consisting of Jaya on Sapetar, Mozad on Bass and Amil on Drums. They were the first and only Instrumental Rock Band that ever took part in the Asian Beat Band Competition (2001-2002) organized by Yamaha Music Malaysia and won 2nd place during the National Finals with a song called “Beginning” that was composed, written and arranged by Jaya. Unfortunately, the band competition couldn’t proceed to the Asian Finals due to some unforeseen circumstances.
However, Polar Attraction won the hearts and growing attention of fans within the circuit for their energetic performances and the catchy tunes. This led to the opportunity of performing for the first Line 6 Party in 2005 at Kuala Lumpur’s Planet Hollywood. By then, they had created a following and was soon offered as the featured band for a gig; again the first of its kind where they played a full set of instrumentals only, at Little Havana Club, Kuala Lumpur.
With more opportunities knocking on their door, it is very much certain that the band will be around for a longer while. Their current activities include writing more original music and constant practicing for future gigs coming in the near future. The chemistry between them as seen on stage keeps improving. It is an understatement to say that Polar Attraction is just another band; the enthusiasm of these three musicians in playing only instrumentals and being able to stay until today in a scene dominated by glamour and fame, makes them a true band!
Hey J A Y A, All my thoughts are lost to your graceful gaze? The sand runes crossing your divided consciousness do speak of contemptuous monsters being slayed by flying phoenixes. Panoramic aromavision is the future. The expanse of your beauty is a void no universe could ever fill. I keep searching for you between the cushions. You have not yet reached the height of your creativity. I relentlessly desire cotton candy lollipops. Your intoxicating reflection can but incorporate freely into the powerful surface of a disintegrating mirror set afloat upon a swarm of locusts. Your reflections bring happiness that rends naked glass. Your beauty is multiplexed in contemplation of your multidimensional effervescence. In your presence even my shadow acquires the sensation of touch. If I could have just one wish, it would be to wake up to your songs in the morning. May you always have stables of horses to service your needs. You turn the atmosphere ablaze with currents of sweet ethylene when you smile.
