I'm tempted to write a long detailed account of my musical experience, so instead I'm going to stick to the basics. I started playing bass in 1972 for two reason's. 1 No one else wanted to play bass + 2, I thought it would score me points with the opposite sex! Ha, not exactly an inspiring beginning but there's more! I had zero interest in playing bass until a friend with a music loving older sister, turned me on to Jack Bruce playing ass kicking bass in West Bruce + Laing. The song was called "The Doctor"! That was it, I was hooked! From there I took a few lessons at a local music store with a teacher who was a guitarist, so basically we jammed. Jamming accounts for 90% of who I am as a musician. (That and a mix of mind expanding substances + intense curiosity) I've never had the benefit of a formal music education and what I've learned has come form playing, more playing and a lot of serious listening. Brain Eno talks a bit about pro active listening and that would best describe how I absorb music. Yin, the art of listening, Yang activity of playing! The way I began singing wasn't exactly typical, aka not in the church choir or the shower for that matter. It was out of frustration with egotistical lead vocalists. In 1981 I started what would become 7 years of vocal acting training which paralleled my bass playing and song writing. I was aspiring to become a singing bassist like so many of my heroes. Hell it's a sexy instrument, add vocals and the world should be my oyster aye? Not! By the end of the 1980's I was so disgusted with music that I pretty much quit for the entire decade of the 90's. But a non musical life was not in my cards. Through some strange and magical coincidences the new millennium brought music back into my life like a lost dog finding it's master. (Violins please) Music is my oxygen, take it away and I'll suffocate. So that's it, the short story. For a more detailed history, I invite you to read my Blog posts from time to time as I flesh out the details. Ciao for now!

Hey Jay! Hope all's cool with you. We've managed to get back to NYC! We're playing Le Poisson Rouge on the 27th, can you make it? If so drop me a message and I'll put you and a friend (I'll need their full name) on the guest list.
Hey Jay, since AOK don't accept friend requests from bands (hmmf) I can tell you here the YOU GUYS ROCKED SPIKE HILL!!!!! FUCKIN' AMAZING. hope to do it again. xx H&C
Did you hear NYC is going to have the new "cardinal" guy go to a tunnel construction site to 'bless' mindless machines??? Machines that take Human ingenuity, Human effort, Human design, and will only survive through direct Human maintenence??? It's so sad that in this day and age, we still consult with witchdoctors and shamans to summon spirits. (Not counting the 'spirits' you encountered last night). So now we know. New York has two Bass-playing Taurus heretics! Take that, New York!! I've got to catch up with you one day, Jay. Peace, bro' Pinky
YES indeed, now I remember you, Jay! Good to have you aboard, mate! You turned me on to Evan Gluck, and he's very good, and close to where I live. Thanks for that! Stay in touch, Jay. ;-) Cheers, Robes
