Jaydahmann, was born in Toronto, Ontario, in the notorious Jane & Finch area "Shoreham". Even though only a quarter of his life was spent here, it was here he was first exposed to the hard life, filled with drugs, gambling and murder. It was told to Jaydahmann that his mother and father had separated before he was born so he was used to not really having him around. His father was a young moneymaking ladies man that lived with his family just around the corner in Driftwood. Jaydahmann was real close with his father's side, so their home became his second home. Now his mother had decided to move from the little house in Shoreham when it got overcrowded and bounced around in the east end from areas like "Sparroways" and "Chester Le". And at about the same time his father's side would move to "Lawrence Heights", a metro-housing complex in the Lawrence Ave West and Dufferin St. area, also known as “Jungle”.
Growing up in those crime-ridden areas gave Jaydahmann his deep; heart felt stories and tales that you hear in his music. Stories such as a home invasion robbery, which he tells over Jay-Z’s “Can’t be Life” track, where four armed gunmen, stormed in on his family and demanded cash, drugs and jewellery. His life formed his style, his flash, his slang and his delivery, which together makes him the versatile emcee he is today.
He began writing reggae music as a pastime in the late 90's because of his background and the deep-rooted struggle he could relate to in the music. He didn't think much of it until the day he walked over to a cipher and recited some lyrics he had written a few nights before. After he was done his 24 bars, the crowd went crazy. That's when he realized the power of music. However he stopped writing for about 2 yrs and regained his passion for writing lyrics when his daughter was born in the late months of 2002. He wrote diligently and began to become a great songwriter very quickly.
However his music didn't find its soul until he was incarcerated for 6 months in March of 2004. His life was in shambles, the cops were terrorizing his family while in the process of trying to pin a murder on his younger brother and he was being back-stabbed by both family and close friends. It was in the Maple Hurst Correctional Facility in his quiet cell where he was able to release all of his bottled up thoughts and emotions and creatively construct them into lyrical poems, witty sentences and catchy hooks. He learnt how to count bars by beating on the tables, and with his quiet, secluded cell, he was able to experiment with different styles and hear how it sounded. He quickly developed his own style and was being compared to Lil' Wayne and Jay-Z. After wooing the Maple Hurst inmates Jaydahmann knew he was ready to take on the world.
After his release he quickly recorded and put out a 5-track compilation titled "JAYDAHMANN VOL1." The response was the same everywhere it was played, "the boy's flow is sick". His life’s conflicts and tribulations gave him the confidence and the swagger he has today. He then put together a 2nd mixtape a few months later titled "JAYDAHMANN VOL2". This mixtape put his name on the tongues of a lot of people and made his sound popular in the streets and landed him a spot on the now infamous Rapsheet DVD Pt.2. Jaydahmann’s 3rd release was, "Am I My Brother's Keeper?”. This may have been his best work to date. “Am I My Brother’s Keeper?” was a formal oath to his incarcerated brother and to the hip hop world that he had indeed arrived and was going to fill the shoes that have been waiting for him. Many tracks off of that mixtape have been in regular rotation on local and internet radio stations. The bonus track “Wake Up” even won him the “Black History Month Exclusive” spot on www.hiphopcanada.com in 2006. In 2007, Jaydahmann opened for such acts like The Clipse & Jim Jones alongside Mayhem Morearty and The Jungle City All Stars and performed at the Battle Of The Beatmakers 5 in front of Universal Urban and Flow 93.5. 2008 has seen Jaydahmann featured in Magazines such as Urbanology and it has also seen him hit 1 on Flow 93.5's OTA Live for 4 straight weeks with his smash, "Anything". Sky's the limit for this young artist and Jaydahmann will continue to expand with Big 10 Records and new management team Ignite Entertainment, as he begins to shine on a more mainstream level.
