Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, the Band, Cat Stevens, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Greg Brown, Martin Sexton...and of course my friends...Garrison Starr, Gabriel Mann, Adrianne, Joe Purdy, Chris Pierce, Jim Bianco, Brian Wright, Rob Giles, Sara Bareilles, Laura Jansen...there's a lot of talented people in this town...enough to maintain my faith in humanity.
Some early press for the 'the things you think you need':
"The album is truly superb. It is also a clear reflection of the artist
himself; down-to-earth, playful, witty and occasionally profound, grounded
but sentimental, sensual but intelligent, romantic but only in passing… The
Things You Think You Need is definitely something you'll think you need
after just one listen; and Jay Nash is doubtless an artist you will want to
get better acquainted with… Nash's deep, gravelly vocals will remind you of
the sadness of Hank Williams, the sensuality of Marvin Gaye, and the
tenderness of an adoring lover." – A.L. Harper, BlogCritics.com
"A modest singer/songwriter from the East Coast who has embraced the LA
music scene with a passionate heart; this is Jay Nash." – Christina Chomut, SheKnows.com
"There's a softness in Jay's voice that's undeniable, along with a
vulnerability that's oh-so sweet. There is a realness to all of the songs on
The Things You Think You Need. It is an album that can be listened to for
hours." – Allie Matthews, Aced Magazine
"Jay Nash's new album 'The Things You Think You Need' is a must have. Soul
soothing music that will calm your inner beast even in bumper to bumper
traffic. Jay's music congers up similarities somewhere between John Mayer,
Johnny Cash, Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson." – Best Music Live
"Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Jay Nash is the consummate troubadour." – Brett Leigh Dicks, VC Reporter
"The Things You Think You Need' is a collection of 10 songs that are a must
have and you need to listen to them— because they will pierce you to the
core if you let them into your heart and soul… While Nash says that he
writes from his own experience, it’s like he’s reached into your heart and
soul and torn out a piece of your gut-wrenching experiences— both positive
and desperate. His lyrics will get you immersed in his musical universe and
you might not want to leave." – Stevie Wilson, LA-Story.com

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
