BIOGRAPHY
Jay Selway is no newcomer to the electronic music world. With a DJ career spanning more than a decade, he has played an integral role in the production of countless events in the DC/Baltimore area, including such national clubs as Cubik (Nation – DC, URB Magazine's 1 New Night Club in America), Sonar, Tsunami (Club ARC – NYC), Spirit NYC, Ultraworld, and many more. Having organized countless one-offs and club nights, he was also responsible for kick-starting the underground trance scene in the DC/Baltimore area. He's headlined with countless world-renowned DJs and live acts, and has been featured on various radio shows, such as BBC Radio One “The Essential Mix,” John ‘00’ Fleming's Global Trance Grooves, “Eddie's Army” on Radio One, “The Move” on XM Radio, DI.FM, and various local radio shows. Jay also produces “The Static Channel,” a monthly show featuring the best underground trance and progressive from around the world to an audience of thousands. The first hour showcases a mix by Jay, the second a guest mix by a fellow DJ.
The first major impression Jay made was in 1997, when he entered the Fever/Buzz Battle of the DJs. At the time, he was exclusively playing psytrance, and was the only psychedelic trance DJ to enter the competition among 700 entrants. After two nights of intensive competition, Jay—known at that time as “DJ Hybrid”—finished in second place, scoring only one point lower than the winner (DJ Shortee). In addition, he's headlined alongside many international DJs/musicians such as Infected Mushroom, Astrix, Hallucinogen, Astral Projection, Deepsky, PopStream, S-Range, CJ Bolland, Dubtribe, John ‘00’ Fleming, DJ Icey, Scott Henry, Green Nuns of the Revolution, MFG, and Tsuyoshi Suzuki.
In January of 2004, Jay and Mind Warped founded Konvocation in response to a need for local, quality underground trance. Konvocation quickly grew from a small 100-person Sunday night party to a 1,500-person Friday night party in DC at Nation—one of the top nightclubs in the country.
While having an impressive DJ career is obviously important to Jay, producing and writing music is his true passion. With releases on Iboga, Soular Records and JOOF Recordings, 2006 was the break out year for this American producer. Along with his musical partner, John C, Jay forms half of the group Zero Divide. Their hard-edged progressive sound has received world class support from DJs Christopher Lawrence, Paul van Dyk, John ‘00’ Fleming, Nicholas Bennison, John O Bir, John Askew, Emok, Banel, Above & Beyond, Antix, Austin Scott, Dimitri Nakov, and Hujaboy. In addition, Zero Divide’s tracks have been featured on KISS 100, Ministry of Sound, The Static Channel and John ‘00’ Fleming's “Global Trance Grooves.”
Jay has completed remixes for Christopher Lawrence, John ‘00’ Fleming, The Digital Blonde, Astrix, Wizzy Noise, Hujaboy. One of his recent tracks—a remix of John ‘00’ Fleming vs. The Digital Blonde’s "Fused"—was featured on The Essential Mix by Christopher Lawrence—the 4 rated DJ in the world. Christopher not only selected Jay’s remix of “Fused” for his upcoming Gatecrasher mix CD, but also his remix of “Rasa Lila.” “Fused”—deemed “Single of the Month” in IDJ magazine—also hit 2 on the Beatport top seller chart, while remaining in the top 10 for more than six weeks.
Jay was the resident DJ at Konvocation's nights at the now defunct Cubik. At these events, he regularly performed to upwards of 1,500 people alongside the world's most recognized underground trance artists and DJs. While Jay’s projects are mainly solo, his recent collaborations with Magnus, Mind Warped, Deeper In Zen, and John C reflect an unprecedented musical enthusiasm.
