A 3rd generation player with roots embedded in country music history, Jayson was born in Nashville and raised in Atlanta, spending childhood summers in Music City. Becoming a musician like his father and grandfather was in his blood and he knew Nashville was where he needed to be.
In 2002, Jayson moved his family permanently back to Nashville from Atlanta. Since then, Jayson has had the opportunity to work with several national artists, including spending time as guitarist & bandleader for Ty Herndon, and then holding the same duties with country superstar Gretchen Wilson. He's also worked with several other artists, including Lee Greenwood, Tracy Lawrence, Jamie O'Neal, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and most recently newcomers Bobby Pinson, Carolina Rain, and Colt Ford. In addition to touring, Jayson is a regular during recording sessions with some of the top musicians in Nashville.
For Jayson Chance, being involved in the music business was simply unavoidable. His grandfather, Floyd "Lightnin' " Chance, spent 20 years as the staff bassist on the Grand Ole Opry, and is one of the most recorded bassists in the history of country music. Lightnin' was also a founding member of the "Nashville 'A' Team" of session musicians. He spent his career working live and in the studio with the likes of Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Ray Price, the Every Brothers, Faron Young, Marty Robbins, and countless others. Jayson's dad, Barry Chance, has long been considered one of the elite guitarists in the Nashville music scene. Barry has spent time working on the highest level with superstars such as Jimmy Buffet, Barefoot Jerry, Johnny Paycheck, Marty Stuart, George Jones, and many more.
In addition to tremendous country music exposure, Jayson also had the benefit of being raised around another genre of music by his step dad. Richard Owens spent 20 years touring the country on the production crews of some of the biggest artists in rock music, including Foreigner, Earth Wind & Fire, Rush, Billy Joel, Bachman Turner Overdrive, and numerous others. So to Jayson- Country, Rock, whatever good music is good music!
Currently Jayson splits time between in-town performances, studio sessions, and touring. On top of that, he also helps to raise his two beautiful girls Katie (b. 6/99) & Emily (b.4/01), along with his lovely wife, Sonja. The Chance family also welcomed their newest addition, Jacob Taylor, in October/2008. Stop by and say hello to Jayson on his Myspace page, and feel free to say hi next time you see him perform!
