dj Jayson Kincaid...
Kincaid fell in love with House music as a teenager at his first underground warehouse party in San Francisco in 1992, while inspired by dj's such as Garth, Mark Farina, Jeno, Tony Hewitt, John Howard & Doc Martin. In 1996, picked up his first single turntable, bought a cheap Gemini mixer and started mixing a single record against his home stereo system, while teaching himself to beat match. Soon after, got a second turntable and it was on from there. In House, Reggae & Dub, he found a love and passion for music & dj'ing and has been doing it ever since. Kincaid's dj'ing style would most likely be considered... funky, deep, dirty, acid, techy and/or soulful depending on the venue...with always a fat bass line! But his specialty is getting people on the dance floor!
Grooves-in-the-Park, a free daytime outdoor park party which Kincaid has been throwing with his long-time friend Mike Caccam, has been going strong for over 9 years. Though the party has it's roots in their home town of Stockton, CA, G-i-t-P made it's first
SF Bay Area debut in the Summer of 2006 at MLK Park by the Bay in Oakland & continues to expand their parties in the SF Bay area. This popular gathering features live dj's & special guests from around the globe, bbq, drinks, dancing under the sun, and continues to spread the music, vibe & love! Kincaid is always on the lookout for fresh outdoor spots ensuring G-i-t-P will only continue to grow and keep this special gathering alive. Always one to keep busy, Kincaid has been throwing Culture a free party on
4th Sundays of every month at the Oasis in downtown Oakland and has been a resident at this venue for over 4 years. He also does his night dubbed Deep Roots in SF every 2nd Thursday of every month at the Tunnel Top. In addition to his events in the Bay Area, Kincaid has played as a special guest at many venues out of the Bay including venues in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Virginia, and at underground warehouse parties, clubs, and venues all over California. In his 14+ years spinning records he's enjoyed playing alongside some of the best dj's & producers in the business including Doc Martin, Garth, Steve Loria, Jeno, Tony Hewitt, Harry Who?, Rick Preston, John Howard, Sunshine Jones, dj Carlos, Donald Glaude, Charles Feelgood, dj Buck, Freaky Chakra, RaSoul, Iz, & David Harness to name a handful and presently dj's at many venues in the SF Bay Area, his home of 5 years. Kincaid graduated from Ex'pression College in the Fall of 2006 in the Bay Area while studying engineering, production, & business of audio and received his Bachelors of Applied Science Degree in the Sound Arts program. Kincaid also has much experience in the live sound field as an engineer which he started doing at a young age while engineering for his mother & band on stage and continues to do this for live acts in the city presently. Kincaid has engineered for such names as Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Joni Morris, Narda Michael Waldon, Bonnie Hayes, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and many more... When Kincaid is not dj'ing, organizing events, or looking for music, he's working with friends & producing the music he loves. Always close to house & reggae music, Kincaid has worked at Choice Cuts Records in Santa Barbara, Tweekin' Records on Haight Street in SF, and the A&R assistant for Om records in SF. Kincaid's passion for the music keeps him going, and the love for and from the people is what he enjoys most! -by Tracy Cummings
