Jay Szech began his comedy career in July 2002 at Winchester's Comedy Club in Baltimore. During his senior year at Salisbury University (MD) he was selected by the student body to be the opener for such acts as Daniel Tosh, Bert Kreisher, and Elvira Kurt. As Jay said, "My first paying gig was a coupon for a free oil change". Upon graduation in 2004 Jay hit the D.C. comedy scene (and survived). His stories about college, the working world, and life after graduation have thrilled college crowds as well as people who wish they were still in college. During the day he entertained a different crowd as a 10th grade history teacher (it takes alot to scare this man). After spending 2 summers as the on field emcee of MiLB's Aberdeen IronBirds, Jay relocated to Los Angeles in 2005. He has quickly become a fixture on the scene with appearances at The Comedy Store, Room 5 for White Boy Comedy Productions, HaHa Cafe Comedy Club and Martini Blues. "This is really all just an elaborate ploy to get women to pay attention to me...but I try to keep the act fresh, whether it's pop culture, college life, or Chuck Norris. I just want to bring a different way of looking at the world that's fun. It's all about the people who laid their money down, or snuck in, having a blast." Jay Szech grew up in Linthicum, Md. and currently resides in Los Angeles. Jay Szech (big show 1/22!)'s Interests
General
Miscellaneous Tomfoolery. I'm into running, surfing, film, camping and basically just doing stuff with friends. I love doing stand up so we'll see where that lands me...probably working at Chuck E. Cheese. I also enjoy poking the homeless people on venice beach with sticks, and deciphering the spanish language, as well as eurotrash accents.
Music
I'm pretty broad with music, Nine Inch Nails is the all time favorite. Rolling Stones, Green Day, Social D, Loving the Lie, Pattern 13, Van Halen, Billy Idol. Doors, JCS, Foo Fighters, Blink 182, MXPX, SR-71,RHCP, Beasties, Jimmy Buffett, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Offspring, . I'm a big rock guy but i'm kinda all over the place. Oh and Motown is amazing. My dream though is play in a country jug band.
Movies
7even Days (ok I'm partial because I wrote it), Top Gun, Ghostbusters, Platoon, Old School, Boondock Saints, Animal House, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Mindless film is great. Theres no need to find deep meaning in a film. You want meaning? Start a cult.
Television
If you ain't rollin with the simpsons you ain't rollin with me. Family Guy, Robot Chicken, A-Team (I love it when a plan comes together) and of course Sports Center, Baseball Tonight, and College Gameday. That 70's Show, M*A*S*H. I don't watch a lot of TV since I'm never home.
Books
This is why they invented movies and TV, jerk. Hemingway is cool though and Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets is a quality read. And any biography on Ralph Macchio or Pat Morita.
Just getting by, getting ready to check into recruiting school in a couple weeks and then hopefully coming back out there to you guys. we will have to have a pancake breakfast!
you really are a funny guy.The plug for Overlook was priceless. Now you have to include your favorite teacher, (me) in one of your routines or I'll send Mrs. Travers after you.
