Hailing from Union County, New Jersey, Jay Touhey and Company consists of five musicians who have been playing music for over seven years in various bands and in various genres.
The music is acoustic pop (also occasional electric guitar work and even cross-genre mixes with hip-hop artists) with solid foundations as well as heartfelt lyrics. Consequently, Jay Touhey and Company is a group that appeals to fans of multiple ages and musical tastes. The songs themselves range from poetic ballads to upbeat dance grooves, rhythmic jams to powerful epics, which have drawn fans from across the country, not to mention a strong following in their home state. Live renditions of the songs seem to have taken on new life with the addition of extended intros and endings, as well as the occasional improvisation. All of this has led to not only a well-received debut album, but also live shows that are entertaining, interactive, and energetic.
Officially formed in the latter part of December 2005, the band hit the ground running. Playing to a crowd of two hundred people at their first show, the bands exciting chemistry was evident from the start. Since the release of their ten-song LP Modest Inspiration, Jay Touhey and Company have proved prolific, adding ten new songs in a little less than five months. Fusing artists from multiple genres, the sound was commercial yet unique at the same time. Sticking mainly to their acoustic roots, the band collaborated to create a sound even they did not believe they could produce. From catchy hooks to powerful lyrics, the ball is rolling, showing no signs of slowing down any time soon
