Some are listed under my profile...and I'll come back when I have the time and put in more here. The profile is a good start, but not a complete list.
Music
Jazz, old pop/rock, standards, classical, some old country (think the '60's - early '80's), Lots of old movie soundtracks...and some new. Music that create soundtracks for moments IN your life, like what you're listening to now, to fit this. Your life IS THE most important movie you'll ever experience. Music should be a part of it. YOU should choose it, not someone else.
Movies
Lots of old ones. And every now and then...in a blue moon...a new one. Usually see those on DVD, unless on a date.
Television
Except for old movies and some special presentations, I don't watch much TV. Seldom ever watch the three networks (ABC,NBC,CBS) Life's too short to spend on what's currently on most TV. What I see on the TV screen are mostly are DVDs or videos of older shows I've tracked down, located, taped or bought.
Books
Far too numerous to mention. Must have gone way past 2K by now. I read 5 - 7 at a time. Read every day. Biography, Mystery, Main-Stream, Literature, History.
Think, most every classic you've ever heard of, plus others.
Heroes
Dave Pelzer comes to mind. Read THE LOST BOY and A MAN CALLED DAVE, and you'll understand why. Others you wouldn't know. Real people. People who accompish things. You have to find them yourself. There are a few more I'll mention later.
Back when I was in college, I went into a tire store one day to have a couple of tires replaced on my car. I can't recall the name of the place, but it was located on Lankershim Blvd., in North Hollywood. It looked nice, clean. The building slanted at an angle, which gave it a modern look. In the office, reception area, The owner had framed photographs on the wall of celebrities, and on the opposite wall he had nicely framed photographs that he'd taken while he and his wife were on ski trips to various parts of the world. Bright blue skies sat atop sharp sunlit snowcapped mountains. Looking at the pictures, you could almost feel the crispness that must have been in the air.
As I stood there, waiting my turn to talk about getting some tires, I overheard the older lady who was ahead of me, who'd just placed an order, say something to the owner, standing behind the counter, about having trouble with her keys. I looked and could see she was having trouble getting her key off her keyring, so she could leave her car at the shop.
I looked at her and realized that it was Anita O'Day standing there, wrestling with her keyring. I stepped over and said, 'May I help you with that?' She thanked me and handed her keyring to me. I easily took the key off the ring and handed the keys back to her, and she thanked me again.
I thought to myself, THIS is Anita O'Day. And I tried to think of something else to say. I wanted to say something but...I was young and didn't know what I could say to this great female jazz singer...so, the moment passed and I said nothing. She was dressed in every day slacks and a floral print top. Nothing fancy. I could tell she knew that no one there recognized her. And since I said nothing, she didn't think I did either. Looking back, now...I see how really easy it could have been to have just started a conversation with her, about her music, or anything in general. But it was another one of those times in which I was just too young to know that...
And so I didn't. She left, and I turned and asked about getting some tires, never thinking for a moment that I'd always remember helping Anita O'Day with her keys....
....
Now, let's see here.....Different subject.....
The windows were down, the night balmy. The extra breeze felt good blowing around inside the car, against his face, through his hair. Ventura Freeway, 2 AM. The traffic was thin and the driving took care of itself. He could think about where he was going. But inside, he wasn’t sure where that was. Things were going wrong and he was trying to figure a way out. He needed an answer. Getting behind the wheel and moving always helped. It put him in a place between the past and the future; everything on hold, giving him time, as long as he was driving.
He saw the sign and curved around onto the San Diego freeway, soon dropped off at Mulholland, and headed east. The curves would help, headlights hitting the bushes beside the road, and the feel of the wheel in his hands; a feel of something to do. He turned the dial on the radio, found the wah-wah sound of something familiar. Temps. Pappa Was a Rolling Stone, the long version. That long instrumental intro. The rhythm and strings the perfect soundtrack to the drive, creating a mystery around each curve, as the headlights danced off the bushes and occasional mailbox. City lights in the distance below splashed out sporadically beyond the bluffs, glitter thrown on a dark floor, disappearing around the next curve as the tires whispered. He wanted the winding road to last; there was no hurry. Nothing but the breeze, the sound of the tires, the radio, the pale glow of the dashboard, and letting his thoughts come. We’re all headed somewhere. He wondered where he was heading tonight, and he felt the night holding it in, bringing his thoughts closer…...
And on a different note...
Bought a Line 6 Tone Port some time ago, but still haven't figured out how to use it to record. Anyone has any idea on the subject...please let me know. When I started this page, I SWORE I'd have a CD out by now!
Hey, I like LOTS of things. Very eclectic tastes. Very active. Interested in writing, writers, jazz guitar, most guitar playing, photography, more into books than TV, having fun watching YouTube, finding old things on ebay, most anything to do with the arts, etc., music, painting, theater, film making, All the possibilities in the realm of radio that are not there, yet. AM radio, radios with analog dials that light up! For some reason, the voices just 'feel' closer on those sets. World Band radio, music from the '30's on up! Vinyl and CDs! Staying in shape, Henry Mancini, cool soundtrack music from the '60's, or before, that low, sleek style/decor from the '60's, Lots of white decor. the great B&W architectual photography by Julius Shulman from the early '60's...and the super modern style of those homes he photographed that STILL look modern! Love kids! Should have had one or more. Meanwhile, the best daddy in the world is going to waste! Common sense, and a rejection of political correctness. People who can think for themselves and don't have to 'check in' with the crowd or media to know what to do or how to think about something. People who don't 'edit' their thoughts before speaking, openly and honestly. People who wear their feelings 'on their sleeve.' Laughter, Silliness, Seriousness, Pets, Americana, good conversation, comfortable in jeans, comfortable in a tux. Style, confidence, substance. Just listing a few things that come to mind, right now.
Will be back later to add more. ...Just give me a night
Who I'd like to meet:
People who share some of my common interests, period.
Time moves by so fast. Just running into like-minded people by accident is too slow. And then there are those you have NOTHING in common with...but like being with. And then what a great vehicle this is for locating old friends you were never able to, before! I'm currently living in a small town. The internet offers much more opportunity than we ever had before to find new friends.
....And, Hey Folks!...This Karaoke thing below is just for fun...I'm not trying to be serious!...
We are now the Soggy South - I don't know - maybe 14" just this month alone. I am so very tired of it. It finally let up about an hour ago. Now, we will see if there is more to come.
What a lovely guitar - And...A big Woo Hoo for you getting the Christmas Photo completed. I can't wait to see this labor of love.
(chuckling)
Man, I have so much to do today and have zero energy to deal with it all. Oh well...must go and talk myself into it !
Hope that you are staying dry and warm these days. We have had over 12" of rain, just this month and have more coming in tomorrow. Oh Joy !
I was so very proud of Miss Hailey last night. She did a marvelous job on her performes at the Christmas Program. There were 100 children in the program and they all did an exceptional job. There of course were the goofball boys, that could not be still - making silly faces. Of course, the worst of these was standing next to Hailey - Hilarious !
Well, boy's will be boys.
I MUST spend today working on my hand crafted Christmas Gifts. Hopefully, no distractions or major interruptions, as I am behind in getting them completed.
Oh, I loved your new song....(chuckling) I will take time and give you Kudo's at first opportunity.
Must get going here, you are always in my thoughts !
