Whitney Russell started playing piano and trumpet at an early age. He attended Arts Magnet High School in Dallas, TX and Weatherford Junior College and graduated from Florida A&M University.
Whitney has preformed with Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsallis, Kirk Whalun, George Clinton, Kirk Franklin, and Stanley Turrentine as well as others.
Whitney has preformed at the ShowTime at the Apollo, Blue Note in New York as well as other clubs across America. He has also traveled and played in Spain, Rome, the Bahamas, and many other places.
Whitney Russell has also led many successful groups in Dallas, Texas and Tallahassee, Florida: The Whitney Russell Sextet, Quintet Organ Trio, Group in Session, Fish and Grits, and now Jazz Hop. His goal is to see Jazz Hop grow and to record his straight-ahead Jazz albrounum and perform. You can find him performing in the Tallahassee and Atlanta area.
Derrick Jackson: Derrick Jackson, Jazz Hop trombonist, enjoys a career as a performer, conductor, composer, arranger, and educator. Born in Valdosta, Georgia, Jackson into a military lifestyle as a son of an army officer. At age of twelve, Jackson's interest in the trombone was encouraged by his 5th grade band director, Mr. Bill Giles, who also made a living playing jazz trumpet and performing in such movies as The Color Purple. After earning All-state Jazz awards throughout the state Illinois, Jackson pursued his quest for music at Florida A&M University under the direction of Dr. William P. Foster. While attending FAMU, Jackson performed professionally with several groups such as The Boys Choir of Tallahassee, Barry Manilow, Above Standardzz Jazz, Longineu Parsons Tribal Disorder and Jazz Hop. Jackson now resides in Atlanta, GA, where he is currently teaching Middle School Band. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whitney Russell and a friend came up with Jazz Hop as a name for an organization because the music is mixed with Jazz and Hip Hop. The main functions of Jazz Hop is a production company/band/and managing D's Horns
Why is Jazz Hop special?
They love hip hop and jazz and heard people complaining about the negative side of music so they wanted to play a music that everyone could listen to without it being watered down. If you like hip-hop, Latin, neo soul, sade, even Christian (Jazz Hop's music is non-offensive - even children can listen!).

Production/Band/D's Horns
As a production company we look for artists to produce. Rap, Neo Soul, and Soul Jazz is our focus.
As a band we perform our own music as well as popular music: Jazz, Funk, & Hip Hop.
"Jazz Hop" the album was recorded and mixed in Tallahassee, Florida at the home of Whitney Russell. We want to get to a real studio and sign up with a label. All tracks and programming was done by Whitney Russell as well as keys and trumpet, except track 4, which has Philbert Andrews on trumpet. Kendra Foster is on vocals.
Jazz Hop is one of Tallahassee's premier jazz bands. Although the band has been together for 2 years, each individual player has made a name in their own right. From touring around the world to playing in Tony Award winning Broadway musicals, each band member has made an impact in the jazz world and in the Tallahassee community.
All members of Jazz Hop are Florida A&M University music majors. Jazz Hop's mission is to educate and cultivate communities about jazz through show stopping performances, clinics and individual lessons. Jazz Hop believes that jazz is an art form that truly needs to be preserved and expressed for the enrichment of todays youth.
