Jazzway 6004 - the organization:
Jazzway 6004 is a not-for-profit organization that promotes jazz and blues in an affordable and intimate setting and helps build local jazz audiences for our talented area musicians. It developed out of a need for more jazz venues in Baltimore to showcase the tremendous wealth of jazz talent in our area. We also encourage visiting artists to contact us to perform at our venue.
The venue:
JAZZWAY 6004 is the home of local jazz/blues singer Marianne Matheny-Katz and her husband, Howard Katz, as well as a hospitable new venue for house concerts in Baltimore. This elegant party-house was built in 1966 by a well-known Baltimore bookie who hosted lavish, high-profile soirees. Local legend has it that both Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra were guests here. Having purchased the house in a grossly neglected state a few years ago, Marianne and Howard have lovingly refurbished it, and offer it now as a fun and intimate place to hear great jazz and other live music.
The performance space seats 50-60 people. We have a complete sound system and a 6-ft Baldwin Grand piano. Dinner is included with all concerts to provide a complete and personalized entertainment evening.
How Reservations Work:
The house concerts are booked as private parties and the tickets are donations to the musicians. ALL TICKETS ARE SOLD IN ADVANCE - NO TICKETS ARE SOLD AT THE DOOR (NOR IS MONEY EXCHANGED) You can purchase tickets for separate events by clicking on "Buy Tickets and CD's" on our website. If you prefer, you also have the option of printing out the reservation form located on the same section of the website and mailing it to us with a check. All checks must be received 5 days before the concert is held, but on-line tickets can be purchased up to the day of the concert.
How to stay informed about our events?
We announce our events on WEAA and WYPR as well as through jazz calendar links provided by the Baltimore Jazz Alliance (www.baltimorejazz.com ). Our concerts often sell out quickly, so to get direct announcements for our jazz events, go to the home page where it says: "Join the e-mail list". Type in your e-mail address and hit the "JOIN" button next to it. We will not share any of your information with others.
If you have attended a concert here - please encourage your friends to visit the website and join the e-mail list. If you enjoyed youself at one of our concerts, please consider leaving some feedback in our "Guestbook"
We need your help to preserve Baltimore's Jazz Heritage and to support our wonderful local jazz artists!
