November 2006: I was labeled one of Saatchi's new stars by The Independent
I have worked professionally in graphic design for 10 years mainly in magazines, NME, Q, Classic Rock. I graduated in Graphic Design from Camberwell College Of Art, London, UK in 1997. I completed an 8 week summer school in painting at the UCL Slade School of Fine Art, London, UK in 2006 and a HNC BTEC in Fine Art at Kensington and Chelsea College, London, UK in 2007. I am now studying at Chelsea College of Art and Design until 2011.
I enjoy magazine design because the content is person dominated. I am fascinated by people’s faces, which is reflected in my figurative painting style.
I work with both oil and acrylic, with a limited palette of just 8 colours. I enjoy paint handling and paint mixing. My paintings are bold, expressive, with a sense of drawing in them. They have been described as edgy with a self-reflecting energy. I am not afraid of mark marking and like the luminosity of wiping paint away and building up a new layers of paint. I allow the paint to drip creating a loose feel in a controlled way 'controlled expressiveness'.
I am influenced by other artists such as Michael Andrews, Lucian Freud,
Marlene Dumas, Jenny Saville and Euan Uglow.
I am inspired by religious iconography, popular culture, graffiti and tattoos.
