John Bardy is a Detroit native currently playing sets of his original Country Blues/Soul in Austin, Texas, Luckenbach,Texas, North Carolina and New York City.
Singing, playing guitar, harmonica on the rack and trombone, John established himself in Detroit forming the bands Good Saint Anne and later The Grotto Visitors while playing as a sideman in the blues improv group Mick Vranich and The Detroit Crew as well as backing former MC5 manager and blues poet John Sinclair on the road with dates at CBGB'S, The Nuerican and Coney Island in New York City.
While living in Los Angeles and playing at The Troubador, The Belmont of Beverly Hills and The Highland Grounds, John was introduced to legendary drummer James Gadson (The Watts 103rd st. Rhythm band, Bill Withers, Etta James, B.B.King, Ray Charles, Beck, etc.) by a mutual friend who had a hunch John and James would click. Upon hearing some of John's material and noting the "authentic sound" James then assembled a back-up band of seasoned, old-school players including Micheal King (keyboardist and musical director for Johnny "Guitar" Watson),to play a successful monthly residency with John at The Belmont of Beverly Hills.
When John invited James to record with him at Hotpie Studios, James suggested using his friend Henry Davis (L.T.D., Smokey Robinson, The Temptations) to play bass on the session. The trio captured 4 songs in an afternoon, recording live one-takes together in one room. This session along with his solo acoustic session and a session recorded in Detroit with his old band, The Grotto Visitors, producing the song "wishbone", comprises the cd from John Bardy entitled "The Most Excellent Way".
