    It's a dark modern love story about the traumatised victim of a terrorist bomb (Karl Dresner, an East Berliner) and a fiery Italian woman, Lucia Cavallieri, who wants to turn his life around.

    And it became an even bigger one after being transformed into a song, with additional Johny Mercer lyrics, resulting in being recorded more than 400 times till today (including by Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Mathis, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Yehudi Menuhin & Stéphane Grappelli, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Matt Monro & Carly Simon)
