To coin a phrase, "These are a few of my favorite things." (And incidentally, that song is not one of them!") First, if I were to pick a Rodgers and Hammerstein song, it wouldn't be R & H, it would be Kern and Hammerstein's "Old Man River." Of the R & H stuff, my favorites would be "You'll Never Walk Alone," and "You've Got to be Carefully Taught." If I were to pick a "theme song," one that sums up my philosophy of life, it would be "The Quest" (aka: "The Impossible Dream") from Man of La Mancha. It's a pretty awesome song. I love the entire scores of West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Hair. I should also mention Kander and Ebb's "Wilkommen" "The Money Song," "Cabaret," "All That Jazz," "Cell Block Tango," and "Nowadays." And, I love the music from AIDA. There are many more songs that should be on this list - more than I can name right now.
Movies
This is a list of what I would consider the best plays and musicals that have been made into films: The History Boys, Proof, A Streetcar Named Desire, Long Day's Journey Into Night, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, A Raisin in the Sun, The Odd Couple, Glengarry Glen Ross, Picnic (Kim Novack, anyway), West Side Story, Cabaret, My Fair Lady, The King and I, Chicago, The Music Man. It's best to avoid the Gorden MacRae/Shirley Jones version of Oklahoma. But if you can find the new filmed stage version with Hugh Jackman as Curly, it's fantastic. Also the movie musical/film version of The Producers is very wonderful to see.
Television
I watch a lot of what I call mindless television. Television was created, it seems, to distract the mind from everyday work issues. My family watches Grey's Anantomy, and Chuck. Some televison can be quite gripping, however, there's a lot of crap on television, and the acting is often over-the-top, perhaps without even realizing it. And while I'm ranting, the number of commercials these days has become outrageous!
Books
As this is a theatre page, let's talk about favorite plays and musicals, not books. My favorite plays are The Glass Menagerie, Long Day's Journey Into Night, Les Liasions Dangereuses, The Odd Couple (yes, it's actually a very good, very funny play,) Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and of course One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Favorite musicals would be: West Side Story, Showboat, Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Promises, Promises.
Heroes
Robert Lee Scharmann, Dustin Hoffman, Marlon Brando, also Charlize Theron - check out her performance in MONSTER. It's incredible!

About me: I'm the Coordinator of Theatre at Jamestown Community College. I've worked there since fall 1996 and since then have directed all their shows. Some of these are pictured in my "photos" section, and if you are listed as a "friend" of mine, you can access them. If you're not listed as a friend, then you're stuck only looking at pictures of me! (Ugh! How boring!) You can find out more about JCC Theatre at:

As for the videos...there's one short rehearsal clip from our 2004 production of HAIR. BUT make sure you click on "my favorites" for a few other musical video production clips.

I just watched Aida. It brings back so many memories. I even cried at the end of curtain call. I have to do the show in the fall or I might go crazy. The stage is where I belong....along with being with Josh and Abby. My heart yurns to be on stage as corny as that sounds. I just wanted to thank you for giving me the oppertunity to be in the 2 shows I've been in. You've given me some of the greatest times in my life. You rock Bob!
