Saxophonist J.C. Davis is most notorious for his work as James Brown’s bandleader through the mid-’60s. After leaving the Godfather’s side, Davis moved to Columbus, Ohio, and settled down, playing only the occasionally local gig. One day in 1969, Davis and a group of local musicians cut six memorable tracks at Columbus, Ohio’s Mus-I-Col Studio. They released four of those recordings on two separate 45s for their own New Day label with very limited distribution. Many years later, the original tapes have been remixed and mastered and released in their entirety on this limited-edition release.
