U2, James, Radiohead, Kula Shaker, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, The Flaming Lips, Doves, Sigur Ros, The Crash, Morrissey/Smiths, Zoé (the band from Mexico), Stone Roses, Charlatans, Blur/Gorillaz, Suede, Arcade Fire, Bravery, Depeche Mode, Cure, Police, Editors, Soda Stereo/Gustavo Cerati (from Argentina), Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Prodigy (but not the newer stuff), Underworld, Massive Attack, Air, New Order, Erasure, Jarrè, Zeppelin, Floyd, Merz, Daniel Lanois, Wilco, INXS (even with their new singer!), and many others... here's a list of things I've been listening to recently (updated June 2007):
The following information is no more than the result of a brute sift of my iTunes Library, so don't take it too seriously:
Movies
Although I have a weakness for martial arts movies and Robert Rodriguez flicks, I do enjoy serious cinema as well. Some of my favorite movies are Jim Jarmusch's "Dead Man", David O. Russell's "I Heart Huckabees" (and the underrated "Three Kings"), Tom Tykwer's "The Princess and the Warrior", Bill Condon's "Gods and Monsters", and "City Lights" with Charlie Chaplin. Other movies that come to mind now are "Syriana" and "Gegen Die Wand" (aka "Head-On"). More recently, "The Departed", "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Borat" are movies I've enjoyed.
Television
With the exception of news shows (specially The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) I haven't watched a proper TV show in over 7 years, although in the last few months I've been getting hooked on some video podcasts, mostly Diggnation.
Books
Sadly, not a lot recently. Read "El Bufalo de la Noche" by Guillermo Arriaga earlier this year and "El Testigo" by Juan Villoro shortly before that. Cherished authors from my past are Hesse, Sagan, Fromm, Frankl, Tolkien... and those are all I can think of now...
About me: Having lived 18 (very influential) years in Monterrey, Mexico, and being that most of my family and friends live there, I consider myself primarily a 'regiomontano', but 10 years in Chicago (where I was born), 4 years in Boston and several summers in other parts of the US (Houston, Phoenix, Lake Tahoe) also weigh in on my identity. And maybe because I never felt completely Mexican nor American, I ended up spending 3 years in Spain (mostly Madrid and Valencia). After having hung out for a couple of months in Buenos Aires, I recently moved to San Francisco.
yay! thanks for your throughts! yes, someone's expecting you @ Bliss.. it's my good friend & you'll love her.... and to answer you (from a while back), I did get to see radiohead before I took off... did you?? (such an amazing show!!!)
