About me:

In a Nutshell:
~ I have DJ'd at and run nightclubs and band gigs in Canberra for a long long time (over 500 events) ... with some gaps in the early 00s... covering the genres of electro, industrial, gothic, house, trance, indie alt pop rock, commercial dance pop, noisey glitchy breakcore, punk, heavy rock and metal, retro cheesey pop (60s-00s)...
~ the more recent (thus perhaps better known) 2007+ club names include VAMP, ALT, RETRO, HEAVY and CRUNCH... I was doing 6 gigs a month for a while there...
~ I DJ'd on radio 2XX for over a decade including prime drive time shows for several years, was even a radio station manager for a bit...
~ Many of my own music tracks (namely the project EYE and the original E.L.F.) have been played regularly on community/underground/grassroots radio all over Australia (very popular in EYE's peak period of 1999-2002 with regular prime-time slot airplay) plus get on the hard-to-score radio JJJ's daily playlist for several months in 2003; EYE videos have been aired on two national australian TV stations (ABC & SBS) and released on over 70 compilation CDs internationally (over 70,000 CD units out there somewhere)... not a bad accomplishment for a do-it-yourself hobby; I didn't want to be owned/obligated to a record label.
~ For many years I also ran an "underground" (ie. bedroom-based) record label called Blatant Propaganda (closed in 2004); produced and released numerous compilation CDs of (mostly) Australian self-produced D.I.Y. artists...
~ There's lots more about all of this on the resurrected www.BlatantPropaganda.org website.

As a club DJ I pride myself on playing to the crowd (as opposed to preaching or alienating them), on paying attention to what they want and doing what I can to work in as many requests as I can; depending on the circumstances (if I have my huge collection of sounds there or not), on the overall crowd and on the musical genres... I usually get by very well and quite often end up with lipstick covering my cheeks. :-)

VAMP is my ongoing monthly club at present... though in 2007-08 I was doing up to 6 gigs a month... At present I am interested in DJing more often interstate, partially as I'm looking to move somewhere else later in 2009... For now, if you're in Canberra, add "Vamp Canberra" on Facebook as most updates and photos go there. :-D

At Raven we accept posters, flyers, business cards, stickers, zines etc relating to any type of event or topic. Please bring your posters to the counter but feel free to leave anything else on the table inside our door.

We are happy to promote gigs, launches, bands, other businesses of interest to our customers and anything else you have going on.

The table can be a great place to leave free promo cds of your band or event for people to grab, or stickers or even adds for members wanted.

Avoid hassles with the poster polls and get lots of exposure.

The other place we can promote you is on our web site. If you have an event you would like us to list on our web site please e-mail details to; admin@ravenclothing.com.au
Raven Clothing & Accessories – 108 Bunda St Canberra City.

Oh, and don’t forget we are no longer opening on Sundays. Everyone needs a hangover day.

  • Sep 30 2008 2:56 AM

why thank you! and i do hope to meet you and your missus at UTBM. i'm really sorry i missed your club. i asked around at chrome what a gal should be doing, but didn't get a whole lot of help. i've been looking, but haven't had the *hugest* luck hooking up with kindred here in canberra : / hence, going to UTBM aloooooone. will be good for my look at least ;).
if you see me mooping picturesquely in a corner, come say hello!
  • Sep 15 2008 8:56 AM

Haha don't worry about it!!! I actually have designated "reply back to comments on myspace" days =P Otherwise I just get to carried away and am either on here all the time or take ages replying back to stuff.
Generally the former though =P Myspace is such a good procrastinating tool! Especially when you're at uni XD
Ohhhh, Sydney! I lurve Sydney, always so much to do =D What were you doing up in good ol' Syd?
Haha, I reckon! It's the not the coach trips that are bad, I quite enjoy those, ample time to listen to the iPod and all the new songs/albums that you've put on there and, in mine and Reg's case usually, plenty of time to rev yourself up for the concert you're going up to see =D But it's just like after a long night out clubbing, it's such a relief to get home to a nice warm, comfy bed and take your shoes off ^_^
Anyways, will more then likely be seeing you at VAMP on Friday =D
