I started playing guitar at the age of 8 (1978) when my parents bought me an $50 guitar for my birthday. . My mom bought me the guitar so that I might become more coordinated. I don't know if it helped my coordination but I did enjoy playing the guitar and have ever since. I studied with a couple of local teachers on classical guitar for about 5 or six years.
I started attending the University of Utah Music program when I got out of high school and whole new perspective on music. I was introduced to jazz and twentieth century music. I studied theory, sight singing, piano and jazz guitar. Of all the classes I took I enjoyed the theory and ear training classes the most, because I was hungry to compose and wanted to understand why I liked the music I listened to. My last two years of College I was involved with performing and composing for the University Jazz Guitar Ensemble. In 1996 I graduated from the University of Utah with a music degree double majoring in composition and performance.
Since that time I have been performing with several bands in the area (currently LOL), writing new music and enjoying life.
