jdavyd williams was the principal songwriter, guitar player, and programmer for the now defunct darkwave power house in tenebris, where he gained notoriety for his unique blend of dark atmosphere and pop sensibility, combining powerful and melodic guitar work with a strong foundation of synthesizers.
jdavyd's first exposure to kirtan and bhajan was at a maha shivaratri celebration hosted by satchidananda ashram, yogaville. upon arriving at the celebration he found an old friend leading a rousing shiva chant in a call and response fashion, and though he had never heard the song until that moment, he was compelled to instantly sing along.
less than a year later, while in the midst of demoing tracks for a new, solo effort, he rose from morning meditation with a very clear impression in his mind.
"you should be performing kirtan"
putting aside the songs he had already written, jdavyd set out to blend the power and beauty of the mantras and songs he had learned with the atmosphere and sound of the gothic and darkwave music he has always loved and performed. the result is unique and distinctly his own, but has been compared to dead can dance, delerium, and peter murphy.
Waves, Jdavyd's debut solo album, a mixture of kirtan, bhajan, and darkwave is now available in all your favorite digital music stores, and at jdavydwilliams.com.
