Award of Silver Star:
"For gallantry in action in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany during the period 28 July 1944 to 8 May 1945. As tank commander he demonstrated leadership and outstanding courage at all time. At Saarguemines, Germany, he accompanied the Combat Commander on a patrol into the town and when they received heavy machine gun fire, he covered the withdrawal. At Marfelden, Germany, his tank received a direct hit seriously wounding him and the Combat Commander. Sergeant Impson helped administer first aid and refused treatment for himself until later. His heroic action helped save the life of the Combat Commander and reflects credit upon himself and the military service."

Award of Soldier's Medal:
"For performance of an act of heroism involving voluntary risk of life under conditions other than those of conflict with an enemy in the vicinity of xxxx, Luxembourg on 10 March 1945. A white phospherous grenade exploded in a tank. The driver's clothing was set afire. Seeing what had happened, Sergeant Impson removed the driver from the tank, rolled him in the mud and water along the edge of the road to extinguish the flames, and then with further total disregard for his own safety, reentered the tank and extinguished the blaze, He was painfully burned about the hands, his action saved the life of the driver and prevented further damage to the tank."
