.. .. WELCOME ON THE JEAN LUC PONTY OFFICIAL MYSPACE .... After studying classical violin at the Paris Conservatory in the early 60s, Jean-Luc Ponty turned to jazz. Thanks to his revolutionary style on the violin he collaborated with some of the best European and American jazz musicians such as Eddy Louiss, Daniel Humair, Niels-Henning-Ørsted Pedersen, Wolfgang Dauner, Eberhard Weber, John Lewis, Tony Williams, Lalo Schifrin, Quincy Jones and George Duke. He became the first bebop violinist and U.S. Jazz magazine ‘Down Beat’ created a violin category for him in its critics’ and readers poll, until then violinists were voted for in the ‘miscellaneous instruments’. In the early 70s his pioneering work on the electric violin attracted the attention of pop and rock musicians, he recorded with Elton John and collaborated to several tours and recordings with Frank Zappa’ Mothers of Invention and John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra. In 1975 he founded his own band and became one of the most prominent figures of the jazz-rock movement in the USA, selling millions of albums that all reached the top of the U.S. charts. He has kept touring and recording with his band through the 80-s and 90s while also collaborating with Chick Corea, George Benson, Allan Hodsworth, Bela Fleck and Miroslav Vitous. He also formed the Rite of Strings with Stanley Clarke and Al Di Meola. Critics have acclaimed his most recent band album “The Atacama Experience” as one if his best since “Enigmatic Ocean”. Jean Luc Ponty & His Band will keep touring through 2009, with a first performance at the mythical theatre La Fenice in Venice, Italy. .. .. Après des études de violon classique au Conservatoire de Paris au début des années 60, Jean-Luc Ponty se tourne vers le jazz. Avec un son mat, rugueux et puissant, il crée un style de violon radicalement nouveau et enregistre à 21 ans son premier album "Jazz Long Playing". Cette utilisation révolutionnaire du violon dans le jazz des années 60 lui permet de collaborer avec les meilleurs jazzmen européens et américains tels que Eddy Louiss, Daniel Humair, Niels-Henning Ørsted-Pedersen, Wolfgang Dauner, Eberhard Weber, John Lewis, Tony Williams, Lalo Schifrin, Quincy Jones et George Duke. Il est le premier violoniste bebop et le magazine de jazz américain "Down Beat" crée une catégorie pour violon dans ses référendums spécialement pour lui (jusque-là les violonistes étaient classés dans «instruments divers»).
