Jean McGowan lives and sings in Portland, Oregon. A veteran singer, Jean has performed in several bands on the east and west coast. In the tradition of Bonnie Raitt, her style varies with a mixture of blues, soul, and country. After taking five years off to have her two babies – she has happily returned to the music industry and is grooving with a whole new band.
She composed the 9 songs on her debut CD "Itch" (as in the seven year itch) after the birth of her second child when her sense of identity was completely in question. The balance of being a woman, a wife, a mother, and a lover are the touchstones she addresses in her songs. An award winning political columnist she now mainly focuses on music, writing and being a mom.
She has just finished her first screenplay - the movie version of her album "Itch.” She continues to create music daily and loves performing way more than play dates and minivans.
