Jean Michel Daudier was born in Les Cayes Haiti into a family of musicians and poets like his half brothers, Jan Mapou and Carlo Placide. He was 15 years old when he learned to play the guitar. His first guitar was a broken one that was left behind after a night out of serenading by another brother. Jean Michel became famous in 1986 after he wrote a protest song called “Lem pa we soley la” (When I don't see the Sunshine). The song was written for the Catholic radio station Radio Soleil, which supported the fight against the former dictator Baby Doc in Haiti. It was distributed clandestinely on a small tape cassette and no one knew the singer. People were arrested for singing it in the streets of Port au Prince after a charity concert. In 1997, his work was documented in the book A for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey , by Gage Averill.
Jean Michel has impacted so many lives in Haiti and he’s continue to look for change in his music. Over the past twenty years, he expanded his musical style. He is writing songs in Creole, English and French. Living in USA since 1989, he has performed in many cities and traveled all over the place. He performed at the Broward Performing Art Center for Martin Luther king Jr birthday Celebrations. Other places like North Miami Performing Art Center, Las Olas River Front, Brooklyn College, Devry University, Miami University, Little Haiti, Miami Books Fare Festival and so on. He has been favorably reviewed in major newspapers and magazines in the US, Canada and Haiti.
Jean Michel Daudier naquit aux Cayes en Haïti et prit naissance dans une famille de musiciens et de poètes. Il avait 15 ans lorsqu’il a apprit à jouer de la guitare. Sa première guitare fut une guitare endommagée abandonnée par un autre frère après une nuit de sérénade.
Jean Michel est devenu célèbre en 1986 après qu'il ait écrit une chanson de protestation appelée “Lèm pa wè soley la” (Quand on ne voit plus le soleil). La chanson a été écrite pour la station de radio catholique Radio Soleil, qui avait soutenu le combat contre l'ancien dictateur Baby Doc (Jean Claude Duvalier) en Haïti. Au cours des vingt dernières années, Jean Michel a élargi son style musical. Vivant aux Etats-Unis depuis 1989,il s’est produit dans beaucoup de villes et a voyage partout. Il a execute au centre d'art du spectacle Martin Luther King Jr. au "Broward Performing Art Center " lors des célébrations d'anniversaire de ce héro Américain.
Puis aux d’autres endroits comme le centre Miami Performing Art Center, Las Olas River l'université de Brooklyn, l'Université de Devry, l'Université de Miami, Little Haïti au festival de prix de livres de Miami et ainsi de suite. Il a été favorablement mentionné par d’importants journaux et revues aux USA, au Canada et en Haïti.
Son nouveau album represente une nouvelle approche à sa musique. Cet album a une saveur Tropicale avec une acoustique, qui est mélange d’harmonie Haïtienne, Reggae, Jazz, R&B et Brésiliennes. La plupart des textes sont en Créole, Français et Anglais.
Une pensée pour toi: Si tu penses que ta journée a vraiment mal commencé, pense à ceux qui ne voient plus le soleil briller, pense à ceux qui n'ont plus de libertés, et vois la chance que tu as, celle de pouvoir vivre une nouvelle journée, et le pouvoir d'en faire ce que tu en voudras... Tu as besoin d'un peu de peps', une bouffée d'air frais, viens sur ma page.
