Biography (english version) :
Born in 1954 in Paris, guitarist Jean-Michel Kajdan is one of the exponents of an electric guitar style that has breathed new life into the "Strat" as a jazz instrument.
Fed on the British Blues of the likes of Eric Clapton and Peter Green and spiced with the grooves of Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix, this self taught musician developed for himself a distinctive modern rock style while playing in local Parisian bands. His discovery of BB King and later Wes Montgommery led him towards a jazzier blues all of his own.
Jean-Michel Kajdan issued his first album "First Step" in 1979 with Manu Katché, which also gave him his first single "Melissa".
This succes brought him to feature in the live line-ups of numerous prominent artists : Jacques Higelin, Michel Jonasz (Amnesty International Concert), Eddy Mitchell, Catherine Lara, Tommy Snyder, Enzo-Enzo, Maurane to name a few. He also recorded with friend Eric Serra doing the soundtracks for the movies "Subway", "Kamikaze", & "The Big Blue".
As a live performer his experience of 4 years of worldwide tours with Didier Lockwood give him wider recognition. And the list of recording "friends" continues to grow : Tony Williams, Jan Hammer, Bob Malach (USA), Gerry Brown, David Sancious (USA), Alfonso Johnson (USA), Babik Reinhardt, Barry Finnerty, Abraham Laboriel, Steve Gadd, Max Middleton (UK), Toots Thielmans (Belgium), NHOP (Denmark), John Mc Laughlin (UK), Gordon Beck (UK), André Ceccarelli, Eric Seva, Dee Dee Bridgwater (USA), Fabienne Thibeault (Canada), trio Catherine-Escoudé-Lockwood...cemented his position as a studio artist, producer and composer.
Jean-Michel Kajdan is an experienced and highly entertaining player and composer whose work is immediately accessible to any jazz, rock, and blues lover.
In 1997, further to his performances on tour with Lionel Richie (for TV & radio) & Omar Hakim on drums, Jean Michel toured with Eddy Mitchell and Eddie Louiss. During the summer, Jean Michel played with Larry Carlton at the Montreux Jazz Festival. In october 98, Richard Gotainer invited him to play in his latest "unplugged" show at the Européen Theatre in Paris. In 1999, Jean-Michel goes to movie music and composes the tracks of the first film directed by Bruno Garcia "Trait d'Union" (with François Berléant and Guillaume Canet). Then, he composes the music from the cartoon "Wild Instinct" directed by Philippe Leclerc and difused on many european channels in 2000 (BBC, RTL TV...etc). In 2001, Bruno Garcia asked him to compose for his new film "8, rue Charlot" (with Maïwenn and Bruno Solo).
In 2003, Jean-Michel Kajdan performed wiht Gaïa, in Switzerland with Jeremy Spencer (Fleetwood Mac), John Helliwell and Roger Hodgson (Supertramp), Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) and produced the first album of the singer/songwriter SKYE "Impressionnable" and in 2006, her new album "Appaloosa" which will release in march 2007.

Né en 1954 à Paris, le guitariste Jean-Michel Kajdan est l'un des représentants d'un style de guitare électrique qui redonna un nouveau souffle à la "Strat" comme instrument de jazz.
Nourri au British Blues d'Eric Clapton et Peter Green, épicé des écarts de Jeff Beck ou Jimi Hendrix, cet autodidacte développa son propre style de rock au sein des groupes parisiens. Sa découverte de BB King et plus tard, Wes Montgommery orienteront naturellement sa musique vers un jazz/blues d'un son et d'un toucher très personnels et immédiatement identifiables.
Jean-Michel Kajdan sort son premier disque First Step en 1979 (en compagnie entre autres de Manu Katché et Didier Lockwood), enregistré dans le mythique studio Ramsès, alors sous la houlette de son ami Ramon Pipin (Au Bonheur des Dames, Odeurs).
Egalement apprécié pour son travail de sideman, de nombreux Artistes phares, tels que : Jacques Higelin, Michel Jonasz (Olympia, Concert Amnesty Intl à Bercy), Eddy Mitchell, Odeurs, Catherine Lara, Robert Charlebois, Jean-Jacques Milteau... pour ne nommer qu'eux, solliciteront sa collaboration.
Il enregistra également avec son ami Eric Serra pour les BO des films : Subway, Kamikaze et Le Grand Bleu.
Suivit en 1982, l'enregistrement de son deuxième album : Mummy, avec Bernard Paganotti et André Ceccarelli...
Son expérience de 4 ans sur les scènes et les Festivals du monde entier, en compagnie de Didier Lockwood, contribua à la reconnaissance de ses pairs.
En 1990, ce fût l'enregistrement de son troisième album : Bluescales, avec Sylvin Marc, Kirt Rust et Benoît Widemann (François Laizeau pour la scène)
Son travail de studio en compagnie de : Tony Williams, Jan Hammer, Bob Malach, Gerry Brown, David Sancious, Alfonso Johnson, Babik Reinhardt, Barry Finnerty, Abraham Laboriel, Steve Gadd, Max Middleton, Tommy Snyder,Toots Thielmans, NHOP, John Mc Laughlin, Gordon Beck, Dee Dee Bridgwater, Fabienne Thibeault, Alain Ranval, trio Catherine-Escoudé-Lockwood... sût consolider son statut d'artiste, producteur et compositeur.
En 1992, Jean-Michel enregistra l'album le plus abouti de sa carrière d'alors : Blue Noise, avec Loïc Pontieux, Laurent Vernerey, Arnaud Dunoyer de Segonzac, Denis Bennarosh et l'excellent saxophoniste Eric Seva. Abe Laboriel, Steve Gadd et Luis Conte viendront lui prèter main forte sur le titre au nom évocateur : Stevabe.
Jean-Michel Kajdan est un musicien hautement expérimenté mais dont le travail est immédiatement accessible à n'importe quel amateur de jazz, rock ou blues.
En 1997, après une collaboration avec Lionel Richie et Omar Hakim à la batterie (Taratata + live showcases), Jean-Michel se produisit avec Eddie Louiss, entre deux tournées d'Eddy Mitchell.
En juillet de la même année, il fût l'invité de Larry Carlton au Montreux Jazz Festival.
En octobre 98, Richard Gotainer fit appel à lui pour une série de concerts acoustiques, à l'Européen, à Paris.
Cette même année, Jean-Michel enregistra son cinquième album "J'veux trouver ma ligne" lors de 3 concerts live à l'intérieur desquels il se livra au difficile exercice de l'écriture des textes et du chant... "c'était un fantasme et je l'ai réalisé, ce n'est plus à faire... je me sens mieux dans ma peau d'instrumentiste" dira-t-il lors d'une interview sur une station de radio nationale.
En 1999, il se tourna vers la musique de film et composa la BO du premier film de Bruno Garcia "Trait d'Union" (avec François Berléant et Guillaume Canet). puis, il composa la musique de la série d'animation : "Les Zooriginaux" réalisée par Philippe Leclerc et diffusée sur la plupart des réseaux de TV européens, en 2000 (BBC, RTL TV...etc).
En 2001, Bruno Garcia lui demanda d'écrire la musique de son deuxième film : "8, rue Charlot" (avec Maïwenn et Bruno Solo).
En 2003, Jean-Michel Kajdan se produisit sur scène avec Gaïa, en compagnie de Jeremy Spencer (Fleetwood Mac), John Helliwell et Roger Hodgson (Supertramp), Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) et réalisa en tant que producteur le premier album de la talentueuse chanteuse, auteur/compositeur et guitariste SKYE "Impressionnable", puis en 2006, son second album "Appaloosa" sorti en mars 2007.
Il se produit de temps en temps avec ses amis musiciens du groupe Maison Klaus dans les clubs parisiens pour le plaisir de jouer et aux côtés de Skye de façon ponctuelle.

Au programme de cette année Lo’Jo, Anne Sylvestre, Allain Leprest, Nilda Fernandez, Thomas Pitiot, Jean Guidoni, etc… Nous affirmons que, malgré cette époque de crise, le monde a besoin de se chanter, de se réinventer, en empruntant aux mots leur liberté, leur bizarrerie et leur insolence ! Nous avons par conséquent encore invité cette année des oiseaux-lyres qui fuient les sirènes uniformes et marchandes, à l’image de l’oiseau de Prévert à qui le festival rend hommage cette année.
