  • Bio

Jean Synodinos (that's "sin-uh-DEE-nus") delivers grit, grace and acoustic soul for the big kids in the room. Her voice has been hailed by critics as "big league," and her award-winning writing (including Kerrville's New Folk competition) digs deep lyrically, moving from big affirmations to little ironies at the turn of a phrase. Deftly skating between genres, Jean jumps from pop to jazz to rock to blues in order to find the right groove and tone for each song. Known for her dynamic performances, she lives to "read the room" and deliver shows that keep audiences returning for more. Production for Jean's third disc is currently underway with release set for summer 2011. This CD marks the end of a long break in between her acclaimed debut CD "Lucky," and her follow-up release "Breathe." Both discs feature eleven tracks that groove harder, lyrics that dig even deep, and thoroughbred performances from some of Austin's top players. Jean lives in Austin, TX with her husband, guitarist and producer Charles Rieser and their mutt Freida. She is always kind to animals and gardens in spite of repeated failures. A breast cancer survivor, it's her honor and privilege to remind everyone to be their own best advocates for their health care--and for the health of those they love.
  • Members

Jean Synodinos - acoustic guitar/vocals. Her favorite sideman is guitar-slinging husband Charles Rieser, and her extended band for "Girls, Good & Otherwise" features Rob Hooper on drums (Carolyn Wonderland, Guy Forsythe) and Bruce Hughes on bass (Jason Mraz, The Resentments, The Scabs).
  • Influences

The Desert Island Disc list of Top Ten CDs is always in rotation. Right now, in no particular order: Can You Still Feel (Jason Falkner); Janelle Monae (The ArchAndroid); 9 Objects of Desire (Suzanne Vega); Rain Dogs (Tom Waits); Meaningless (Jon Brion); Sandanista (The Clash); Flaming Red (Patty Griffin); Inspiration Information (Shuggie Otis); The Instigator (Rhett Miller); Peace Beyond Passion (Me'Shell Ndegeocello).
