About me:
tout au sujet de moi:
I am known to wear bright green tshirts under blue collared shirts. I do not wear tshirts that say 'hilarious' things on them. I did not enjoy both the novel and film renditions of the Da Vinci Code. I like the Xbox for the Linux rather than the games. I hate writing out online profiles like this. I have this strange feeling that you are not even reading this.

I hate how MySpace songs start blasting from my speakers as I am crawling the internet at two in the morning.

Saunas make my skin feel extremely soft. Want to see? It'll cost you.

I have a dog named Rocky. I like dogs because their affection is easy to gain and their trust easy to keep.

I blog from time to time.

Most of my friends are very attractive. My presence makes them appear more attractive. I tend to drool when I sleep. Now THAT'S attractive!

I prefer my coffee with chocolate milk if it is available.

I take pictures on occasion, mainly when I remember to charge the batteries for my digital camera.

If I had to give this one a name I'd call it "The Cave" because having a basement bedroom often feels like living in a cave.

This one does not have a name but pretty much sums up Sudbury. This place is absolutely gorgeous as long as you do not look in a westwardly direction.

Camp provides me with endless things to photograph. I often have to travel no further than the dock, as is the case with this photo.

This used to be my favourite mug before some physics nerd stole it from the conference room.

I like to shamelessly promote my skills. Cooking is one.

I guess you could say I am sort of obsessed with Toothpastefordinner.com and more recently MarriedToTheSea.com.

I thoroughly enjoy swimming in lakes. I don't do (public) pools.

I have ridiculous friends.

I am a huge fan of dogs. This one is mine. His name is Rocky and he has stumpy legs. He may try to lick you.
Who I'd like to meet:
les gens je veux rencontrer:
Audrey Tautou, Elvis, Hunter S. Thompson, Ghandi, Jesus, you, Jeffrey from Fresh Prince, Leonard Cohen, Kurt Vonnegut, Jen Gillen, Howie Mandell so I can tell him he sucks more now than when he was doing Bobby's World, George Dubyuh without bodyguards, Yoko Ono also without bodyguards

Dear Ian,

You haven't recieved a new comment in over a week so I feel like I should grace you with a comment to brighten your day (actually, that's kind of self-centered of me to think that me commenting will brighten your day, but I can at least pretend). Sorry for being such a subpar friend lately. I really do want to hang out with you. Once I get through all these essays, anyways. Next week perhaps? We could hang out with Mary Ellen and watch CITIZEN KANE!

Kayla

P.S. What movie did you guys watch in class yesterday? Sam missed class and needs to know!

A message to Tom from Myspace, added here to spark debate over the free use of music. Sorry for the length and the lack of direct connection to you...

Hey Tom,

I was just reading an article on the CBC website (www.cbc.ca) about how Myspace is cracking down on unauthorized music uploads.

I just wanted to offer you my opinion on this, but I should first start by admitting that I don't know exactly what "unauthorized uploads" even means. Does this mean the people who build fans sites because the musicians either don't have a myspace, or don't have one with a preferred song? If so, then I think Myspace's reaction is a little much. On a number of times I have used a Doors song or a Bill Whithers tune for my profile. Since I'm pretty sure neither Jim Morrison or Bill Whithers personally made these sites, am I to believe that I have done something wrong? Or if I'm a huge fan of a band that doesn't have a Myspace, and I want to share their music, have I just committed a criminal act?

If the "unauthorized" music is in the video section, where, much like on YouTube, people are using music in videos they make (without paying industry fees), then I would still argue that the reaction is too much. It's one thing if a person is selling a video and are using music to help promote the sales, or if they are using a song on a video that features a message the artist doesn't approve of (i.e. hate literature, etc.); then opposing that seems reasonable to me. However, high speed internet has brought about the age of multimedia, and a huge amount of technology is geared specifically towards the creation of entertainment at home. So if I'm making a home movie about the birth of my daughter, and I want to use a song that is owned by a giant-multinational-corporation-with-an-incredible-profit-margin, then I am doing something wrong? How is this so? The music industry itself has for years used the fact that music provides a soundtrack to our lives, and now we have to pay for that? This seems insane to me; what will I have to do next, pay a fee everytime a song comes into my head when I'm walking or on the bus? Or what if I'm an amateur filmaker and I use a song in my short film because of its emotional resonance or added style? As someone who has made short films before, I can tell you that the purchase costs for the rights to songs is far from cheap, in fact, it is down right exorbitant. So wouldn't it work better for the industry to allow me to use songs when I can't afford to buy them, in the hopes that if I do make it to the big time, I'll be more than happy to pay for the music I use in films that will be recieved by a large audience? Why, if they are so concerned with ensuring that artists are respected and get what they deserve, why would they want to keep artists from exploring the full palate of human emotion that music so wonderfully provides?

I know that Myspace is owned by Rupert Murdoch, and that this isn't really anything that you're doing, I just wanted you to know that I was really disappointed that your site has bowed to the greedy pressure of the recording industry. I fail to see how people are profiting from using "unauthorized" music on this site; in fact, I'd say that it is the musicians and the industry that is profitting. Ever since I started using Myspace, I have been buying CD's and records at a (ahem) record pace.

I think that the music sharing feature on this site is amazing. I haven't been able to explore music on this level since Audiogalaxy shutdown, and I find it upsetting that the music industry is pushing you to do this. Shouldn't they be thankful for all that you've done for them? I also hate that they hide behind this "Save the Music" campaign, while they still take the overwhelming share of the profits off of artist's music. I wonder how many complaints about Myspace are actually from musicians? I hope musicians continue to use sites such as yours to distribute and promote their own music, free from the grip of an industry that is continuing to grow increasingly out of touch.

I realize that you probably can't publish this to your profile, but I wanted you to know how I felt.

Your still in my Top 8 though, cause I still think you rock!

Ian, where have you gone? I never see you around anymore!

This makes me sad.

By the way, that Django Reinhardt CD you made for me is amazing! Thanks for doing that for me, it's been making bus rides more fun than they should be.

Umm... well, that depends. I'd say around 150 of each of mine and Robin's, then maybe... 500 of the general ones? It depends though, because according to Robin, some places will only print a certain number of cards, or upwards (like 250).

To answer your MSN message...

If you don't get me a t-shirt size, I will assume you are S and make you wear it. Either way, you have to wear it when doing booths (apparently), but you shouldn't feel bad about taht. You probably won't be doing many, aside from during the contest.

As long as your schedule's the same as you posted in your LJ, I don't need you to resend it. Meetings are lloking like they're going to be at 3:30 on Mondays, but I don't know for sure yet. Also, Robin wants you to design a business card for her, me, and LTPB team in general. Details to come.
