Hi, I'm Jeff. I'm a married stay-at-home-dad who also happens to be the best folk/rocker you've never heard of. I'm a Macintosh user (as well as a former employee of Apple), an iPod user, a GarageBand pro. I'm a solo acoustic performer. But I'm also the proud leader of a brand-new band, Hawk From A Handsaw. I've put up a few of my songs for your listening enjoyment.
My first musical instrument was the 5-string banjo, from which I derived the fingerpicking style I use in my acoustic guitar playing. I play both 6 and 12 string guitars, as well as electric guitar. I sing leads and harmonies and have a tenor voice reminiscent of Dan Fogelberg and Kenny Loggins. I write and play my own songs, but also love to cover others' music, hits and obscure b-sides alike. I have released my own full-length CD, "Clandestiny", which is available for sale online at CD Baby, as well as via download from iTunes and most other popular download sources (Napster, Real, SonyConnect, etc.).
I'm originally from Tulsa, OK, and lived there for 38 years before moving to Chicago in 1999. I enjoy the ethnic, cultural and gender diversity Chicago offers, which stands in sharp contrast to the Bible-belt vibe in Tulsa (which is a beautiful city, more progressive than the rest of Oklahoma, and was a great place to grow up, but I'm happier in Chicago). Although I am straight, I'm a member of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), which lobbies and educates on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) issues. My song, "Some Of My Best Friends", was written both in response to the murder of Matthew Shepard in Wyoming, and my having moved to a city that embraces homosexuals far more overtly and genuinely than is possible in Oklahoma at this time. While not all of my music reflects social themes, much of it does, which I feel is a responsibility of any artist who champions issues of importance to him or her.
My performance schedule is available on my website. I hope you'll take the opportunity to come out and hear me, and introduce yourself as well.
