Hello There, Jeff, also known as Lord Jeff, is a band. Jeff has existed as a band since September 2001. Jeff started in Northampton, Massachusetts, during the last "period" of the day at NOrthampton High School. It's founding members were Sean Goggins (guitar, vocals, sampler), Orion Russell (drums, background Vocals) Matt Francis (guitar, bass) and Mike Tebaldi (bass). Jeff formed in a small room inside of the Northampton High School, a few days before 9/11/01. We would jam and write new material at the end of the day, 8th period, or whatever it is called. Eventually, our music was deemed "Too Overtly Psychedelic" by the School Authorities. Our 8th period free study music class drew to a premature close. Needless to say, we were fuckin pissed off. Within a year, nearly everyone except for Mike Tebaldi had dropped out of the Northampton High School system.
Jeff spent three years, 2001-2004, slowly accumulating knowledge about each other's musical psyches. We played a few parties, but never a real show at a venue. Starting in the latter half of 2004, Jeff started emerging from it's self imposed isolation, to melt the faces of many people in the northeast. Just at about this time though, circumstances made it difficult to keep creating music.
Sean, who was allready living in a different part of Massachusetts as the others, ended up moving to Boston at the end of 04, to go to Berklee College of Music. There, besides having a horrible time, he studied with the amazing Jon Damian, who has taught greats like Bill Frisell, Mike and Leni Stern, Brad Barr of the Slip, and many others. This was a generally slow time for JEFF, but it was during this time that the first cd LORD JEFF was recorded.
It was released in December 2005. Many people enjoyed it. It has 20 tracks, roughly 50/50 instrumental and vocal. The CD is still in print, slightly, you can buy it on this page in the SNOCAP music player. More info on CD's will be at the end of this BIO.
So January 06, Sean realized that Berklee was nothing more than a giant factory churning out GUITAR CLONES. (It's really not a great place, to any young guitarists out there, apply to a conservatory, classical is cool, we swear!!) So sean dropped out of Berklee, but stayed in boston for a while. Jeff played many shows in the northeast from this time until early 07.
In early 2007, JEFF decided it was time to leave the northeast as a group, and settle in Asheville, NC (where bassist Mike was going to school). Founding members Sean, Orion and Mike settled in to a strange, mildew infested shack in Swannanoa, NC. PErhaps it was the mildew, or perhaps it was just a combination of psychoses, but this did not last long. It was however, at this time that JEFF completed the second album "TAVISTOCK".
TAVISTOCK is an album with 13 tracks. Mostly vocal, but some instrumental. It is an album that goes from psychedelic crazy slow intense trippy hippy shit, to 80's metal parody, to trippy off time nostalgic anti-drug songs, to drone bullshit. Jeff self-released the album in March of 2007, as Sean drove back up from Asheville to the Pioneer Valley, in massachusetts.
The next few months were quite strange. Sean went back down to the south to Orlando, FL. He started playing with a band, now called STRANGERS in our top 8. Check them out. Sean left soon after though, mostly because of the south. Soon after that, Orion came back up to Massachusetts after visiting Peru, Ecuador and other south american countries. We then played the best show, up to that point, that we had ever played. On may 25th or 26th, we played a 4 hour set at the Sterling Stage Folk Festival in Sterling NY. The Set was from 1 am- 3 pr 4 am. IT was intense. We were joined on bass by our great friend Simon Thompson. After that, JEff didn't do all that much for a while. All of the band's recording equiptment had somehow gone to shit, so recording became difficult and expensive. In July, Sean moved to Los Angeles, lured by the promise of Gold and cheap labor. He has been here since, and Orion joined him in October of 07. Jeff has since played many great venues in LA like The Knitting Factory, Spaceland, Silverlake Lounge and The M Bar. At these shows, on bass was and is Travis Raab. An old chum from Masssachusetts. He also has his own music, which is quite wonderful, check it out in Jeff's top 8.
Jeff is working on their next album, making use of whoever in the band's computer might be working that particular week. Jeff is planning great things, such as writing an even more long winded biography, which in the long run, really doesn't list a whole lot of accomplishments. Thanks for reading!
Also, we are out of copies of our 2 records. We have been making each copy by hand, and it was expensive and time consuming. A CD that we would sell for 5-10 dollars usually cost us around 12 dollars and took a long time to create. So, you can buy the album in the SNOCAP media player up at the top of the page. HOWEVER, we hope that a record company will soon release our stuff, and it should be available in stores near you. IF I WAS YE, wait for the album to come out, and get a nice real physical copy with art, instead of just the MP3 files. And ALSO, If you don't support musicians FINANCIALLY, that means there will not be very much music being made by upcoming poor unsigned artists. It is rough as an unsigned musician. Please show up to our shows in your area, or throw some dollahzz at us!
Wow ! Loving the trax ! Your Jeffness is second to none. You should bring out a new CD and call it "Jeffnecessity". (Hard to believe I used to work in marketing:-) Have a wonderful weekend and yes, you live in California and yes, I'm jealous:-)
