Jeff's musical interest is in '60s and 70’s folk tunes played in his unique style. The result is an entertaining repertoire that engages his listeners. Recording on the 6 & 12 string guitars, the 5 string banjo, and the harmonica, he provides a full sound that is rare and original.
Recordings by Jeff have a full, rich sound, and he loves to use combinations of various instruments and recording techniques to surprise his listeners. He records songs that may have been long-forgotten, but that spark memories. His recordings are a nostalgic treat.
Born December 8, 1959 in Asbury Park, NJ, the year of his birth corresponds with the birth of the '60s Folk Music Revival and the first Newport Folk Festival. Being the son of a Naval Aviator, he has traveled from the home of his parents in Grafton, WV to Florida, Rhode Island, Puerto Rico, and California. His summers were spent in West Virginia with his brothers and cousins at his Grandparents' farm. From these sweet experiences, his love for family, the outdoors, and traditional music began. He has collected the songs and stories he has heard during his travels and has developed an entertaining and informative act.
Music was never far from Jeff’s heart, and he continued to perform while he raised his two children in both San Diego and in West Virginia. He thrilled audiences in the Morgantown Concert Series in Morgantown, WV, The Blue and Grey Reunion in Philippi, WV and The San Diego Folk Heritage "Sam Hinton Folk Festival” in San Diego, CA.
Jeff has studied classical, jazz, and American Pop Music at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA. He has performed with the SWC Chamber Singers and Concert Choir. Additionally, Jeff has performed and lectured on traditional folk music and the Folk Music Revival of the '50s and '60s. In fact, he was touted as the Folk Music expert on campus.
Jeff Moats was a recognized name in the San Diego, CA restaurant circuit in the early 1980s when he performed regularly at the Hungry Hunter, Carlos Murphy's, Tortilla Flatts, Casa Salsa, London Opera House, The Monterey Whaleing Company and, The Ivy Barn in Mission Valley. He also has made appearances at the Bright Angel Lounge at the Grand Canyon.

Thank you for the add request which I very much appreciate. Although I am a classical composer, I do occasionally write Celtic music and very much enjoy the genre. I have therefore very much enjoyed listening to your fine performances and wish you every success in the future.
