   About Jeffrey Luck Lucas
"Darkly gorgeous, unexpectedly uplifting, these ten slow-moving songs traverse desolate nighttime landscapes where conversations in road-houses and at neon-lit kitchen tables drift suddenly from trivialities to life-altering truth. The coffee turns cold, the cigarettes burn down, and all of the sudden someone you love is looking you in the eye, demanding, 'Tell me why / your kindest words are just shy of lies.'" --Jennifer Kelly, DUSTED Magazine

"Lucas is a man who can say a lot with very few words. The very manner in which he sighs "you knew it well" on the eponymous opening track tells a whole story - a whole bushelful of stories! - in itself.

As with his first album, the exquisite production by Desmond Shea is just as important to the final impression as the quality of the songs and delivery by Lucas. A top-rank, new contributor to the Great American Songbook." --Stephen Fruitman, SONOMU.net

LION'S JAW is due Autumn 2008!

Born: Gary, Indiana... of Russian, Dutch, and Tsalagi descent.

Raised: Primarily outside of Houston, Texas and then San Diego. Jumping out of the frying pan at home, into the fire of Los Angeles. Burned, baby, burned.

Currently residing in San Francisco, California, in the Mission District.

A former and founding member of the seminal 1980's garage band The Morlocks (Epitaph, Voxx, Midnight), Jeffrey Luck Lucas is also a classically schooled cellist who has appeared on records by Neurosis, Pat Ryan, High Water Rising, Steve Von Till, Chuck Prophet, Tom Heyman, Rykarda Parasol, Kira Lynn Cain, Barbara Manning, Paula Frazer, and others.

He has also shared bills with Alejandro Escovedo, Stuart Staples, John Doe, Jolie Holland, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Ray Manzarek, John Dee Graham, Chris Whitley, Maria McKee, Stephen Yerkey, and Eleni Mandell, as well as playing the vibrant local music scene of San Francisco.

WHAT WE WHISPER and HELL THEN DIVINE are available for purchase via CD Baby, iTunes, Magnatune.com, Amazon.com, and other online retailers; locally at Amoeba and Aquarius, and are distributed nationally by Revolver and Darla. International distribution coming in 2008 via Decor.

Thanks for being a friend of the Jesse Bernstein tribute page!

Comments on Jesse and his works are welcomed.

"The test of the integrity of a poem, or any work of art, may be, simply: does it lead, in the end, to freedom, or does it merely expand the arena of confinement? A voice from the outside, truly, is what we need to hear. Even a single word. Even something that is not a word, but suggests such a word."
