"Darkly gorgeous, unexpectedly uplifting, these ten slow-moving songs traverse desolate nighttime landscapes where conversations in road-houses and at neon-lit kitchen tables drift suddenly from trivialities to life-altering truth. The coffee turns cold, the cigarettes burn down, and all of the sudden someone you love is looking you in the eye, demanding, 'Tell me why / your kindest words are just shy of lies.'" --Jennifer Kelly, DUSTED Magazine
"Lucas is a man who can say a lot with very few words. The very manner in which he sighs "you knew it well" on the eponymous opening track tells a whole story - a whole bushelful of stories! - in itself.
As with his first album, the exquisite production by Desmond Shea is just as important to the final impression as the quality of the songs and delivery by Lucas. A top-rank, new contributor to the Great American Songbook." --Stephen Fruitman, SONOMU.net

"The test of the integrity of a poem, or any work of art, may be, simply: does it lead, in the end, to freedom, or does it merely expand the arena of confinement? A voice from the outside, truly, is what we need to hear. Even a single word. Even something that is not a word, but suggests such a word."
