i have had a great number of unrelated influences. they would include miles davis, john coltrane, willie dixon, jack bruce, henryk gorcecki, morton feldman, bach, steve roden, ernest hemingway, herman hesse, kurosawa, carl dreyer, fellini; any work that is spare and deals truthfully with the issue of being human. this list could and should be increased by several hundred artists but this is a general idea of what has shaped my work.
i have always seen the electric bass as an instrument of great beauty with an unlimited ability to present thematic material. the bass players who have inspired me to pursue this would have to include paul chambers, willie dixon, jack bruce, jerry jemmot, jimmy garrison, joe osborne, charles mingus, it's endless.
i am a electric bass player and composer. i work mainly with the bass as a solo instrument. i have a new release for january 2007 coming out on new albion records. go to www.newalbion.com/NA133 to check it out. for more info and to purchase my earlier cds, go to www.thebigtreemusic.com.

“White Night” is a rediscovered early masterpiece of Ambient and Drone music. Back in 1974, one year before Brian Eno’s first landmark in Ambient-music, some young musician from New York wrote down a fragment of beauty’s hidden story with the minimal vocabulary of sine waves on the young black skin of a Moog synthesizer.
In 2006 Ex Ovo released “I, Mute Hummings” a collection of Drone pieces which includes an eight-minute edit of “White Night” remixed by Richard Lainhart himself. The track is constantly singled out in reviews with the Wire calling it “gorgeous” and creates demand for the full version to be released.
The first release on CD features Richard Lainhart’s masterpiece in its original 29-minutes-version. There’s no single second to add, after this time everything is told though nothing has been said.

Hi Jeffrey - thanks for finding me. I enjoyed your music very much. I love the electric bass (I'm an amateur bassist) and I think it works very well in your compositions. Keep up the nice work!
