The tunes I'll put up here are rough mixes and semi-completed pet projects. What the heck. It's the only stuff I feel like showing off.
A Rã is my arrangement, based on my friend Kiko Freitas' arrangement of the classic tune by the great Joao Donato, featuring:
Kiko Freitas - vocal, guitar
Jeff Busch - drums, percussion
Jeff Volkman - bass, keys
Khartoum is my arrangement of a Tor Dietrichson
tune, originally recorded on Tor's debut album: Global Village.
It features:
Eric Barber - soprano sax, tenor sax
Chad Quist - guitar
Jeff Volkman - keys
Firestorm is my little MIDI arrangement of a tune written by Johnse Holt.
Foam Home is one of my originals, and Gorilla Room was co-written by myself and Doug Carter. Both are my rough mix, MIDI arrangements, with some additional Keyboard work by Alex Chadsey. And both are "music minus one"; missing the sax parts.
I'll post more complete mixes as they become available (and I have time). In the meantime, to hear more of my work, check out my friends Tor Dietrichson, Samia Panni and Kiko Freitas' pages.

I (Jeff Volkman) grew up in the Northwest, playing a variety of musical instruments before settling on electric bass. I studied music at Edmonds Community College in Edmonds WA, University of Washington in Seattle, and Berklee College of Music in Boston, as well as studying privately with George Morrow, Howard Roberts, Kai Eckhardt, Bruce Gertz, Dan Dean, and others. While attending Berklee in the early 80s, I was active in the Boston music scene playing clubs and casuals before moving to Florida where I played cruise ships, clubs, shows, theme parks and did some studio work. While playing cruise ships, I took advantage of the opportunity to write arrangements for show bands, and started to get hooked on arranging, and later producing. In the early 90's I returned to the northwest to raise my son, and have been putzing around the local music scene ever since, playing with a variety of local and regional artists, as well as arranging and producing recording projects.
For music nerds (scholars): I've gots piles of solo transcriptions, and I'll be putting some of them up on my website (www.jeffvolkman.com), as I get them into Finale. Currently there are four tasty, early Pat Martino solos, and two George Benson solos. You won't find these anywhere else. Coming soon - more Benson solos! (For educational purposes only - no wagering).
