Jeff Wood is a singer-songwriter with a soulful voice and a style that draws from a variety of genres. Whether playing his original country songs at writer’s nights, playing shows with his band, or leading the contemporary worship service at his church, Jeff infuses each song with his own brand of passion and energy.
Growing up on the gulf coast of Florida, Jeff began writing at 9 years old, inspired by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Hall & Oates and The Eagles. From that point on, music has shaped his life. A multi-instrumentalist, he has worked hard to hone his talents as a writer and a performer. He has fronted numerous bands, from southern rock to pop to jazz-influenced R&B. But his love for the intimacy of the song, whether it be country, pop, rock, or gospel, has drawn him to be a regular at “writers” nights all over Nashville, including The Bluebird Café and the Tin Roof. “There’s nothing like playing a new song for a writer’s night crowd,” Jeff explains, “That audience actively listens to the song. It’s very gratifying to see that look on their face that says. ’I get it! That’s me you’re talking about!’”
As a writer, Jeff has a number of country/gospel cuts to his credit. Sawyer Brown’s hit single “They Don’t Understand” was co-written by Jeff and has earned a spot on their latest “Greatest Hits” CD. The song received major airplay on Country Radio, and climbed into the Top 20 on Christian Radio charts as well. The single was honored with a Gospel Music Association nomination for Song of the Year. It has gone on to be included on the hugely successful Time/Life compilation, “Three Wooded Crosses.”
For the past 10 months, Jeff has been hard at work on his first worship CD project, “The Long Road”. The result is a collection of 7 brand new self-penned contemporary worship songs along with fresh arrangements of 3 traditional hymn favorites. In Jeff’s words, “ We create as a reflection of who He is as Creator: of worlds, of man, of music. We worship in response to who He is. The Long Road is a humble act of creation, offered in worship to the King of kings.”
