Jellybean moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota from Chicago, Illinois at the age of 12. Jellybean is a self-taught drummer and guitarist who was a part of Prince's camp in the days of "Purple Rain." Prince formed the band The Time in 1980 and Jellybean has been the drummer now for almost 30 years. He also drums with another Prince created band, The Family, who reunited in 2007 playing a pre-Grammy party in L.A. and opening for The Roots. Speaking of the Grammy Awards, check out Jellybean and the original line-up of The Time, who played together live for the first time in over 18 years at the 2008 50th Grammy Awards with Rhianna.
Jellybean plays guitar nationally with The Ronnie Baker Brooks Band. Ronnie is the son of Blues legend Lonnie Brooks and like father, a straight-head Blues act.
On the local scene in Minneapolis you can catch Jellybean most any week and on most any given night. On Sunday and Monday nights Jellybean jams with The Combo at Bunkers Music Bar and Grill in downtown Minneapolis. Tuesdays you will find him on the West Bank playing with J.B. and The Routine at the Whiskey. And on various nights and at various venues Jellybean is currently playing with the powerhouse band The Truth, all of whose members have Prince affliations. Check out their newest live CD available now.
Jellybean also does local and national studio work with a resume' of artists that has included national acts New Edition, Alexander O'Neal, and Janet Jackson. Jellybean completed work on The Torch, Ronnie Baker Brooks latest CD in 2006.
Jellybean live or in the studio sets the groove and keeps it in the pocket, and on either drums or guitar rises to the occasion regardless of the musical demand or forum.
